Faster DVD-RAM Media Where Art Thou?!

Aloha Forum! If this has been covered before (we can't imagine why it wouldn't have been) please forgive and please direct us to the thread(s).

Can anyone offer an explanation of why there isn't any faster DVDRAM media out there? Search as we do all we can find is 3x. I cannot for the life of me understand why manufacturers even bother to advertise the fast RAM burning speeds of these DVD burners when you cannot even find media. What difference does it make if a burner burns DVD-RAM at 16x or 20x? In fact, HOW DOES ANYONE REALLY KNOW if it really burns at that speed if there isn't any media to test it?!!

Can anyone please solve this mystery with a definitive answer? And could anyone possibly steer us to where we could acquire faster DVD-RAM media?

Thank you

I've brought this up to a number of drive manufacturers. Why are they advertising features like 12x DVD-RAM writing speeds when the media isn't available outside of Japan? Sadly, most consumers don't really care about this so media and drive manufacturers aren't making even the slightest effort to make it available in Europe or North America.

It's not just DVD-RAM media either. Try buying 8x DVD+RW or 6x DVD-RW media in a store like Best Buy. If they're stocking RW media at all, its probably rated at 2x or 4x. Online retailers aren't much better. Most of the stuff sold is from Ritek.

It is a real shame that more people don't realize how Great this media is. Guess they'd all rather burn than drag and drop. ;)

I've always wondered about that also.

Still, i've read a post here where someone from Wis or Mich (can't remember) had a 12x DVDRAM disk he was trying to recover or fix. I can't believe nobody asked where they got that. I wasn't able to log in then but i'd sure like to find that again.

That was me. I got a few discs from one of my contacts at LG.
