BluRays won't play, gold spots on burned surface???

I have an LG WH10LS30 and have been using cheap BD-Rs. One disc brand was Acro Circle, I don't remember the other brand. My problem is that after a year or less I found that some of the discs couldn't be read even in the burner. On closer inspection I see many very small gold colored spots (the same color as the base of the BD-R before burning). These spot are actually just specs, I used a magnifying gless to see them better.

Does anyone know what could be causing this other than cheap media. If it's cheap media, how can they sell crap that won't even last 1 year

You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to recordable media. Still.. only a year? That is pretty bad. How were they stored?

In a cabinet next to my TV. They may have gotten too hot.

That's definitely possible. Heat is one of the biggest killers of optical media.

I just checked some BluRays I had stored in a different location where heat wouldn't have been a problem and they're bad too. I think it's just the crap Acro Circle (Optodisc) BD-Rs. I just bought a stack of Optical Quantum BD-Rs, I hope they are better quality. I know these are also cheap but I used cheap DVDs for years and never had a problem. So far Optical Quantums look good but only time will tell.
