Haven't tried the Fuji/Prodiscs yet, but overall, I like Prodisc. Thanks, David!

Very interesting! Side by side results for some of the top media...well...Prodisc isn't tops, but I'm glad you included it in this test to see how it compared to TY and Mitsubishi. :) Good work!

Code: Select all
LiteOn LTR 48246S
Firmware SS0B...........MMore/MBI 90min 48X.....................24X

ATIP from SmartBurn 3.1.4:
Code: Select all
        Drive Type = CD-RW
         Disc Type = CDR
          Material = Phthalocyanine
           Lead In = 97:17:06
          Lead Out = 10:02:00
  Nominal Capacity = 87.89MB
Manufacturer Maybe = Moser Baer India Limited
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 48X (Write)

This was a "bonus" in a pack of 10 80 min. discs and is my first try at "overburning" in that it's a 90 min disc. I put a show recorded from TV on one of these because it just fit. CD-Speed surface scan was all green, but KProbe @max (=32x for VCD) showed some C2's: max/mean: 47/.06 C1 max/mean: 49/1.75.
Image
A second KProbe scan @24x didn't show the peak- the C1-rate was flat. The quality test was similar to the KProbe scan @max (it didn't slow down at the end either). The C1-rate is about double that for 80 min discs. Because of the C2's at the end, I wouldn't want to use these at a higher speed, but will drop to 16x on the next burn.

TY on 52327S

I finally was able to buy some TY in the Netherlands (100 for 45 euro).

These are the results for my LiteOn LTR-52327S (firmware Q0B):

Code: Select all
        Drive Type = CD-RW
         Disc Type = CDR
          Material = Cyanine
           Lead In = 97:24:01
          Lead Out = 79:59:72
  Nominal Capacity = 702.83MB
Manufacturer Maybe = Taiyo Yuden Company Limited
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 52X (Write)

LITE-ON LTR-52327S
Drive Type   = CD-RW
Disc Type    = CDR (A+)
Lead In      = 97:24:01
Lead Out     = 79:59:72
Nominal      = 702.83MB (79m 59s 72f/LBA:359847)
Manufacturer = Taiyo Yuden Company Limited
Cur. Speed   = Wrt(52X),Rd(12X)

100% OK with CD speed at 52x, altough burning did slow down halfway (you could actually hear it), finishing at only 39x.

This was the first disc, I hope this does not happen with all 100, because I paid rather much for them, compared to other brands working reasonably fine on my LiteOn

Thank you, MediumRare and XIII. :)

XIII: Are those TY discs unbranded (plain silver tops) or are they actually branded as TY?

MMore/MBI 90min Multispeed

Revision:
Code: Select all
LiteOn LTR 48246S
Firmware SS0B...........MMore/MBI 90min multispeed .............40X

I picked up some more of these 90 min/800 MiB discs (they're "Multispeed", not 48x) to play around with, and am pleasantly surprised. I burned the same compilation as previously and stepped up to 48x via 32x and 40x. 32x seems to be the sweet spot (C1 max/mean: 18/2.0), but they're good to 40x (C1 max/mean: 28/4.6). 48x showed a single yellow sector in CD-Speed and 16 C2 errors at 86 min. with KProbe (C1 max/mean: 29/4.1). The C2's show up independent of the scan speed. Nero also slowed to 40x at the end of the burn (which may have produced the C2's), so 48x is pushing it too far.

I guess 90min discs don't have to necessarily be burned at a slower speed to maintain quality. That's good to know. Thanks, MediumRare. :)

casey, are you still using CD Speed to check for 100% green in the scan disc?

PostPosted: Thu Dec 25, 2003 4:33 pm
by casey
Yes allways.
These I have checked with CD Speed ver 2.11 using the following units:
Checked on the 8525b it was writted on.
Checked on my Toshiba 1612
Checked on my LG GDR 8161b

more on the subject, I burned some other disc's this morning:
Hp - 16x - Manufact by. Tayo Yuden @ 40x, results were:
8525b yellow blocks .42%
Toshiba 1612 yellow blocks .11%
LG GDR 8161b pass 100%

I just did the following:
Sony - 16x - Manufact. by Sony @ 24x, results were:
LG 8525b pass 100%
Toshiba 1612 yellow blocks 1.16%
LG GDR 8161b pass 100% so
I SEE THEM AS FAILING, This is how strict/prescise I do the test.

casey: Would it be possible to try burning the HP 16X at 32X and see if they are 100% green with the GCE-8525B? Also, do the same with the other failing discs please, just lower the writing speed a bit (i.e. Sony 16X at 16X, Sony 24X at 40X...but probably better at 32X or 24X). Much appreciated!
