Plextor's new 128GB SSD showed up late last week. The full review of the PX-128M1S is still a ways off, but I figured I'd post some benchmark results. These were taken on an HP dc7900 running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise.

According to Plextor, the PX-128M1S has maximum read and write speeds of 130MB/s and 80MB/s respectively. Looking at the screenshots below, you can see that its actual performance is very close.

Looking at these results, its pretty clear that the PX-128M1S is far from speedy. I still have yet to hear from Plextor whether or not it supports TRIM, but I've been running benchmarks for a few hours with no performance degredation. No idea what controller it has either but if its like the Lite-On LA-32M1S its a Marvell 88SS8014-BHP2.

I didn't feel like wrestling with iometer today, but there are some quick random read/write benchmarks with HD Tune.

According to Plextor, these drives do NOT support TRIM. However, they have some sort of "garbage collection" technique to help restore performance.

I found out today that Plextor has dropped the MSRP of both drives.

64GB Retail $187 (was $225)
128GB Retail $335.00 (was $400)

I've spent the last few days trying to improve the random write performance with Iometer. I don't know what the issue is, but the performance is horrible. Random reads are fine though. I'm going to manually align the partition and see if that fixes it.

Anyone have any tips to get an SSD back to factory levels of performance? I've tried "clean all" with Diskpart but the write speeds are still stuck at 50MB/s.

Lite-On is working on some slick utilities for their SSD's. This one can show the number of erase cycles per block.
