Endurance-tests of some SSDs

For sure not everybody will write 100TB on a SSD, but still I would ask: Why pay more money (840/Evo) for a TLC-SSD when you can get a MLC-SSD which have better reliability for less money?

2.96 TB in 1 1/2 years for me according to Samsung SSD Magician. Samsung 128GB 830 series SSD.

TLC seems to be the future so there's really no way around it unless you want to buy an older drive. As you said, most people aren't going to be writing that much data in that short amount of time. And if you are, more than likely you're in an enterprise environment and you're going to get something with a higher workload.

TLC in SSD only made by Samsung, other manufacturer use TLC for other things like USB-Pendrive

At least I don´t see much sense to pay more for TLC than MLC, who like to buy less reliable things for more money? Samsung have a to good position, other manufacturers would be insulted for this behaviour

I´m not a enterprise-user but I´m sure I will beat the 100TB-limit with my SSDs for Videocutting :)

I hope that Germans have more sense than Americans, but over here, we buy the cheapest crap possible. It's just like recordable media all over again. Oh it failed? Throw it away and buy another cheap piece of garbage.

Maybe the prices are different:

Crucial M500 currently the cheapest SSD-drive, and it´s a good one. Around 28€ cheaper than an Evo with TLC

I actually bought an EVO for my new laptop. It may use TLC, but its pretty badass too.

In which point?

The Turbo-write is useless in most cases IMHO

If just used in standard-scenario you won´t feel the different between Evo and any other SSD, if you copy/move bigger data the Turbo runs out of breath after some seconds ;)

I think the turbo-write is more a benchmark-optimization

The Evo seems not be bad but you see I get some other SSDs like the M500 and Sandisk Ultra Plus cheaper, so the Evo is not interesting for me

I needed the extra capacity it offered. I have too much stuff to fit on a 256GB or even a 512GB drive.

I probably could have gotten the M500, but, as a reviewer, Crucial has never been very friendly to me. I couldn't justify giving them my money.

I understand you, I also give not my money to brands which aren´t friendly to me.

I also like 256GB-SSDs more than 240GB, but the amount is getting smaller. In the past it were mostly the SF-driven drives, but now there are also Marvell and Phison. LAMD-drives have mostly also only 240GB, exceptions are the Neutron 256GB with Hynix-NAND and the Super Talent Super Nova III

One of the cheapest 256GB-drives is the Transcend SSD340 with JMB-controller. But I´m not sure about the quality. It came with a low price at the beginning and then the price dropped before it was avaible.

Do you know whether you get a Plextor M6S for testing when it´s avaible?

I'd say that its a pretty good chance we will. I'm really surprised the M6 series isn't out yet. I've seen some reviews of the PCIe version (M6E?) but those were from the UK.

Also In Germany the M6e is tested

But the M6S havent´t been seen here.

Rumors say it have an Marvell 88SS9183 and 19nm (Toshiba, I guess)
