Somehow lost the link...which module should be used to open these? I hope that link is all I am missing...if not, where do I find correct module in CABS? Thanks!

In Windows Explorer | View | Folder Types, look for "Compiled HTML Help file", then Edit | Actions: open, Edit, Application used to perform action "C:\WINDOWS\hh.exe".

BTW, is this the first time you are trying to use a CHM file? I never had to do anything special on my 98SE box to handle CHM files, so I'm wondering if you have installed all the MS critical updates (including IE 6) from Windows Update. If your OS isn't up to date, you may be experiencing other strange problems as well. :P

THANKS for that refresher! It has been a while since it happened...a few months...so i forgot the "HH" name since it's not that obvious!

And when it happens, other icons for various file types get hosed...like TXT files getting the CALCulator icon, PDF getting Access icons, etc..
And when I re-establish the CHM->HH link, these icons go back to correct values...weird!

And yes, I am behind on updates! Part of that is due to dial-up ISP and size of updates! Now that i have a burner, I might be inclined to download more since I can save them for later if needed to reload!

Thanks again!!

P.S. My HH.exe is in Windows/System folder

My hh.exe came with IE 6 Service Pack in February.

I would really advise you to start caring about MS updates. In January my daughter caught a virus via IE while browsing some web sites. That particular vulnerability was patched in February.
