Why I ditched Nero (Or: Nero vs. CopyToDVD)

OK, I have always used Nero but it has always caused one major problem on my system: massive slowdown (at first I thought it was Nero eatting memory like popcorn, but it's Windows disk caching system). I think I've found a work-around (found a app to tweak disk cache settings in Win2K/XP), but haven't tried it yet (I will be able to in a couple of hours).

But, I fairly recently installed CopyToDVD...and find I haven't used Nero since, except to make an ISO image or two for testing. Now I see CopyToDVD has an ISO creation mode. And since it can do DVD-Video, I no longer have a need for ImgBurn, either. AND NO MORE SLOWDOWN!!

CopyToDVD is nice; just right-click to burn. Yes, it is kinda "newbie", but hey...no need to load another app, nothing like InCD (which I NEVER used) sitting in memory, just click-and-burn. Yes, Nero is more powerful...especially at making audio CDs. So far that's the only reason it's still sitting on my hard drive.

So...do I *really* have a need for Nero? Not that I can see. All I ever burn is data discs (DVD mostly, some CD's), and since I keep everything (fairly) orginized on my HD, the click-and-burn feature is NICE. For the unorginized stuff...well, that's what Ignition (awesome app!) is for!

I know, saying f-Nero here is a major sin! :) But...
What's everyone's opinion on CopyToDVD? Anyone think I should keep Nero around?

It isn't a sin to dislike Nero and to choose another program instead. Nero has strengths, but it is certainly not without faults.

Choose what you like best, be happy with it, and ignore trolls who would tell you otherwise. If what you choose works for you, that is all that counts.

By the way, it is funny you should mention using Nero for audio, since there are many who would say, "What? Nero for audio? Feurio is clearly better!" See? You aren't alone in finding other applications more suited to your needs, and there will always be people who disagree. So, don't worry about what other people think. 8)

Feurio, huh? Hmm...I'll have to look into that! Thanks! What kinda surprises me is that more people don't use CopytoDVD...I can't remember anyone even mentioning it here before, although I could be wrong...It is a great app.

Careful, my son. Image

Before replacing Nero is is always prudent to say three Hail Marys and sprinkle Holy Water on the replacement software. Also, it is advisable to confess that you had bad thoughts about Nero. Image
