XP question

my sister computer is runing a amd Tbird 1.1ghz 512mb sdr ram
15GB hd 5400 rpm and windows xp is running slow on her computer.
anyone know why?
would faster hard drive solve the problem?

Make sure DMA is enabled for all drives. See the FAQ forum here at CDRLabs for instructions on how to enable DMA.

Click Start: Run: msconfig. Go to Startup tab and see whether any unnecessary programs are being loaded. But be careful though, if you disable any important programs it might get messy (but recoverable). Try to give us more details of the issue so we can help you better.

disable some start up programs and enable dma

When was the last time the hard drive was defragmented? That always helps.

Also check the swap file size. This also might be a bottleneck. Happy that you solved your problem.
