One day I was using Nero infotool and this mysterious drive appeared,"Image Simulation(Drive G)".Can anyone tell me where it came from and how it's used?What are there pros and cons to using it?

I use Nero 6,CloneCd,CloneDvd,etc..Did it come from one of these?

It's used to mount CD Images. Suppose you don't want to use a CD-ROM of a certain app, you can dump the contents of the CD into an ISO using Nero, and then mount the image in Nero Image Recorder (present in the Nero Folder in Start->Programs.), and it will act as if the CD is actually in the drive.

Nero Image Drive is good but it has two disadvantages. One, the NRG format is proprietary to Ahead and the other, it only allows one virtual drive in the system. Alcohol, Virtual Cd and many other products let you have multiple virtual drives at a time and also allows you to mount multiple images in various formats (ISO, CUE, etc...).

One upside of Nero Image Drive is that you get it for free with Nero.

So if you wanted to run a game and you didn't want to use the play cd you would "ISO" it and run it from the virtual drive?

Some games with latest protection schemes are little tricky to run from a virtual drive. But if you could make an image successfully, then you sure can run them. Virtual drive is a very useful tool provided you have enough HDD space for Images. It takes the hassle out of swapping CDs for good. This is really helpful if you use any software which retains its dbs in the CD (eg: Britannica, Encarta).

Yes, I forgot about DAEMON Tools. I only use Alcohol which is in the same league with Daemon Tools and IMO the two most appropriate for gaming.

Yeah,I don't have any software that requires db's so I guess Image Simulation is something I won't worry about.I only have a 40 gb HD also.
