I seem not to have the option of Switching or checking if I'mn in PIO or DMA mode anymore.

When I right click on my computer, The system properties box appears. From there I'd click on the hardware option. From there I'd click device manager. The Device manager box would pop-up. I'd go to the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers option and click the + sign. The drop down tree gives me The IntelĀ® 82801 blah, blah, blah ATA controller option and the Primary and secondary IDE Channel option. I'd right click the primary IDE and a box pops-up I used to have an Advanced option which allowed me to switch from DMA to PIO only, but now the advanced tab isn't there any more. There is only the troubleshooting option in the General section of the primary IDE Channel dialog box. From this information, can anyone tell me what has happend. Oh, and I've already did a system restore and still the same thing

What mobo/chipset are you using? If memory serves, 845-based systems use the IAA (Intel App. Accelerator); you enable DMA mode with it, not in device manager.

Can't remember how it worked on my old 865...

It sounds like you have an Intel chipset,if so reinstall IAA from
HERE.

if you use Intel's IAA you won't have the Advanced Tab in the Hardware Manager. supposedly, you can turn DMA on/off throught the IAA.

if you uninstall the IAA you'll have the Advanced Tab back.
