GHOST.ERR

I AM SO NEW TO THIS AND WILL NEED SOMEONE PATIENT TO EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IS GHOST.ERR. I WAS GIVEN AN ACER EXTENSA 500 SERIES LAPTOP FOR MY 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO USE IN CLASS. BUT WE CANT GET IT TO OPEN AND WHEN WE TRY TO DO A RECOVERY ON IT THE SCREEN STILL WONT OPEN. IT JUST GOES BACK TO SCREEN SAYING HDD IS NOT CONNECTED OR NO HARD DISK IS FOUND AND THEN A SCREEN THAT SAYS GHOST.ERR. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO OR IF IT IS WORTH FIXING OR CAN BE FOXED. PLEASE HELPPPPP ALSO THE RECOVERY DISK WONT WORK EITHER, THANK YOU

Im so sorry if I seemed to be shouting in my message hun. At the time I didnt have my glasses on lol. But wont happen again. Im also frustrated over the laptop and that ghost.err message. Im basically a newbie on computers and dont know where to begin to solve this problem.

Check in the BIOS to see if the hard drive is actually recognized. The way it sounds, it isn't.

Ghost is a hard drive imaging application, so you can make an exact copy of a disc to multiple computers. GHOST.ERR is the file it creates when something goes wrong. It sounds as if whoever gave you the machine used Ghost to prepare it.

Have you tried starting the computer without the floppy disc? What *exactly* happens? (what do you see on the screen, what errors, etc?)

It does sound like the hard drive isn't working properly, and honestly, given the nature of Ghost and its complexities, you might be much better off talking to the person who gave you the computer than trying to solve it online since it'll be impossible for us to try to work backwards and figure out what they did.
