Edit a CD before burning

I often make up compilation CDs from various original CDs using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 but there are occasions where I would like to be able to edit a chosen track (eg fade in or fade out). Is there a software available that will do this easily?

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - free and will work well for what you need to do.
Roxio version 8 also has the ability to edit wav files.
