Something that really frustrates me is the way my folders open. I prefer the detail view rather than the tile view and would like to set the detail view as default for the whole computer. Is that possible with XP?

Yep, its possible. Make the folder look the way you want (detail view, etc). Then go to Tools->Folder Options and then click on the View tab. From there, click the "Apply to All Folders" button.

I feel for you!

The first thing I did with XP was to activate the classic search mode (and kill that dog). The second was to adapt the explorer view and fix it for all folders...

Step away from the dark side... I turned off all the gee whiz crap in XP and set it to classic view for everything. works great for me. They tried to hide a lot of things that were easy to find in 98 it seems like, and I'd bet Vista is even worse though I'm not going to bother till forced too, XP does everything I need and is stable, everything just works.

As a Windows guy, you'd think I'd be all over the eye candy in Vista and XP but I too prefer the classic theme.

Here here! This is also one of the first things I do on a new XP PC. Detailed view rocks! 8)
