There were 2 HDDs and one CD-ROM on my Dad's PC.

Once, I had removed the CD-ROM for some work.

Today I re-installed it back into the cabinet.

Everything worked fine.

Then, the computer just restarted & while booting there came an error message in DOS mode. (Not Blue Screen of Death).

"Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device number 3, service B. Your Windows Configuration in invalid. Run Windows Setup program again to correct this problem."

Press any key to continue ...

While taking doing this error message on paper, Automaically the Shutdown screen "Its now safe to turn off your computer computer." came.

What is going on?

Sometimes it boots properly.

PC Specs:

AMD K62 450 MHz
Azza VIA Mainboard
128 MB SD-RAM
Seagate 10.2 GB HDD
Seagate 4.3 GB HDD
Creative 48x Infra CD-ROM

i have not heard of this error or encountered it, but maybe you could go here http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=U ... namic+link and learn more about it. maybe try reformating your hd and installing the os again. im suer you have figured it out by now though.

are you sure you reconnected the CDROM drive to the same IDE connector it was connected to before? i mean primary/secondary channel, master/slave position.
since there are 2 hard drives this leaves only 2 possibilities for the CDROM. maybe try to move it from the one it is on now the the other one that is free. maybe that's what's causing the problem ?
(wild guess here, but can't hurt to try, definitely much less work than reformatting the HD and reinstalling the OS).

Well, I just removed & re-installed the processor. Voila !!! Everything is fine.

I suspect the CPU Fan. Found that Windows gives erratic messages when the FAN slows down or stops for a few seconds.
