HELP ME! BOOT DISK IN XP!

Hey everyone. I'm stumped.

So. I want to make a dos boot for XP. Seems easy. Done it tons of times before in W98, W95, W3.1, Dos, Netware, Linux.. .. I'm not a moron.. I feel embrassed asking this, but.. I'm STUMPED!

Here is the thing. I've searched Microsoft (everything short of calling tech support). All I want to do is make a dos boot disk for XP, I can make one, and it works. Except I don't see any of my harddrives! I am absolutly sure it is because all my Harddrives are formatted NTFS. I need to boot into dos and be able to access them. Is there ANYTHING I can do? Does anyone know? ... ANY help/insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Once again to make a long story short. I need to boot into dos on an XP system and be able to see my NTFS harddrives.

DOS don't read NTFS per se.

Microsoft has an article on Obtaining Windows XP Setup Boot Diskshttp://support.microsoft.com/defau ... us;Q310994

However, Sysinternals Freeware have NTFSDOS v3.02 to access NTFS drives for read-only access from DOS.
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freew ... SDOS.shtml

Not sure if the above helps.

I assumed the answer would be no way we can have a dos boot do NTFS. I've seen/read about that dos NTFS stuff, and it looked bleak. I also read that in the knowlage base... I have the setup disk program, I just need to try it.

I just wanted a quick answer. Looks like I will have to ...build a box for dos booting :P Thanks!!

An excellent but expensive tool for XP/2000/NT4 repair is ERD Commander. The Administrator's Pak includes also a simple Registry Editor, Disc Commander, Remote Recover, NTFS for DOS and some Monitoring Tools.

Microsoft used to recommend (at least in the NT days) installing a bare-bones parallel installation of NT, booting into it, then using its ability to view NTFS to fix the broken NT installation!

Anyway, as mentioned there are tools that let you boot from floppy and view NTFS partitions, so just look around on google.
