Why not combine Blu-Ray with HD-DVD ?

I'll keep short !

Blu-Ray increases DVD's from 4.7Gigs to 25Gigs by physically
changing the size of pits. (I'm not going to go into piles of details).

HD-DVD leaves everything as is but increases DVD's up to 20Gigs
by using new compression. (Again, not going into details)

Why can't we all get along and just combine both technologies and
end up with a 45 to 50 gig capacity?

If both can be used together then I will certainly buy a blue ray and
add or use the better codecs. If possible.

I really don't care if Blu-Ray isn't backward compatible. I'm willing to
give that up for a 25 gig (hopefully 45G) capacity.

PS. It's been a while. How is everyone doing?

Hello Dodecahedron. Thanks for welcoming me back.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea. I wasn't in the slammer
or anything like that. Just took some time off. I was "wired"
to the internet for too long.
