I hate eBay

I've been using eBay for years now, buying and selling toys and computer parts. Keep in mind, I'm not a hard core eBayer. However, I might buy or sell a couple of things a month.

Anyway, lately there seems to be a rash of people bidding up everything and not paying for it. They're brand new accounts with no feedback and they seem to bid on everything. I have a feeling this is a bunch of script kiddies or something. I've run into this with stuff I've sold and things I've tried to buy. It really pisses me off when they win one of my items and I have to relist.. arrgghh..

Also, I recently had a guy win an item from me in early December. He paid for it right away like a good eBayer, but then 3 days later adds a note to his Paypal payment with a new address. Keep in mind, I don't usually check the notes in Paypal, let alone on an item already paid for. Most sane people would send an email or a message via eBay.

To make a long story short, I shipped the item out without seeing the new address and now a month later he says that he didn't get it and wants his money back. According to delivery confirmation, the item was delivered to the original address. I do feel bad because I didn't see the address change, but at the same time, he sent it to me 3 days after he paid and via a small note in Paypal. At this point, I think I'm just going to tell him to go away and deal with USPS... it's out of my hands.

Anyone else deal with this kind of crap on eBay?

He should have left a forwarding address with the USPS. It's his issue.

I think that a lot of small time sellers bid their stuff up under alias accounts.

Apologies, Hox. If the "U" and "A" were adjacent, I would have made the excuse of a typo rather than a misspelling.

That's a recipe for disaster. If eBay finds out (which they will), all of your accounts will be terminated and you'll be banned...

For some items, I've put in my terms "Buyers with zero feedback or a disproportionate number of negatives will have their bids rejected unless they contact me prior to bidding and gain my approval". I usually don't have a lot of problems, but on items over $100, I'm not going to mess around.

Even so, some of my most expensive items have sold to 0-feedback bidders who contacted me prior to the sale, and supplied correct contact information. One mountain bike and one of my racing bikes went to 0-feedback bidders.

I did that for the last two auctions and I didn't have any of the usual scammers bidding on my stuff. I had one person with 1 feedback win one of my items and they paid right away. :D

I need help to stay on Ebay

Please forgive me for interupting you.

I keep getting suspended. I cannot get my original id freed up and I have no idea how they work out that's it's me

I'm not doing anything much. Just selling old tosh. Clothes, bags, shoes, fabric. Just my own stuff. I'm not even a trader.

Do they have a way of tracking us? Is it Turbolister? ISP? Cookies?

I still have a house full of tosh which I'd like to sell and then go back to making patchwork :D

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I hate and detest ebay but have to admit that it's a great place to sell off one's old stuff

Thank you   [-o<

I should have learned.. I won a few Transformers from a guy on March 3rd and paid for them right away. I contacted him last week saying "where the hell are my toys". He was like I sent them via Priority mail.. they must have gotten lost. I'm like.. okay then.. gimme a refund. Now the guy's like.. sorry you did not buy tracking or insurance, if they got lost in the mail, too bad. What kind of crap is that? I filed a complaint with Paypal. I doubt they'll do anything, but don't these idiots have to prove that they at least send the stuff out? Luckily it was only like $26.. but still..

With PayPal, they have to prove they shipped.

This is only partially helpful...if I ship you a pound of sand in a bag inside a box supposed to contain a mint condition original Optimus Prime, I still have proof that I shipped something to you, and PayPal can't do much.

Even so, I've never had this happen. Then again, I often automatically include insurance and basic tracking (delivery confirmation) and just charge a little more on shipping. Then I plug that it is included in the cost. Sellers who don't make clear their shipping policies really suck.

When I ship things, I always use delivery confirmation. That way I know it arrived where I sent it. I've had people try scamming me too, saying it never arrived. Uh.. no sucker.. according to USPS you got it.

I told the guy I'm complaining to Paypal and eBay if he doesn't gimme a refund. We'll see what happens.

Actually, with PayPal now, they have to prove delivery, so sounds like Ian may be in luck. At any rate, it is always the shippers responsibility to ensure the item gets to the buyer in good condition, meaning buyers don't have to pay for so called "insurance" as it is always the shipper that is insured, not the recipient. Always use a Credit Card online, that way the option of a chargeback is still there as a last resort.

On eBay, I would recommend having a buying ID/posting ID for their message boards, and a selling ID. Why? May you ask.

Use the selling ID just for selling. Use the buying ID for bidding and buying things on eBay, and posting on their message boards. This way, if you receive bad service from a seller, you can leave them negative feedback, without having to worry about retalitory negative feedback effecting your selling account.

After a few days of spouting crap about me not paying for his insurance, the guy refunded my money.
