Why?
Apparently, my messages had the words "NON-CREDIT CARD PAYPAL" in them. Ebay has made a policy change. If I accept PayPal in an Ebay auction, I am now REQUIRED to accept credit card payments. If my PayPal account is not set up to accept credit cards, I am required to upgrade it to one that can. Which means that I will be charged a percentage of every transaction I do with PayPal.
Apparently, it is not enough for Ebay to charge me once to list the auction, and a second time when they get a percentage of the amount my item sold for. They must now triple-dip by forcing me to pay if I want to use PayPal as well.
I'm no longer using PayPal for online auctions. This one really burns me. They didn't even have the courtesy to give me a chance to modify my auctions; they yanked them. I spend 90 minutes HTML-formatting and getting my pictures right for all four, and had to do things over again.

Nothing is free. PayPal is still cheaper than having your own merchant account.

PayPal isn't free if I'm using it with Ebay; Ebay is already charging me twice for their auction. Ebay owns PayPal. They're already getting money out of me twice (listing fees, final value fees), why should they a third time?

Posted: Mon Feb 20, 2006 4:36 pmI knwo alot of ppl don;t want to do it, but a buddy of mine tacks on a $5 "handling" charge for 99% of his auctions. He does this to offset some of the charges that Ebya hits you with, including the PayPal fees.
He makes sure that it's in the listing, not hidden either, so anyone that complains, he can reply, JRTFL

Posted: Wed Feb 22, 2006 2:20 amCorrect. Shipping and handling fees are usually inflated a little bit to cover things like packing supplies as well as eBay/PayPal fees. This is not against eBay's Terms of Service. In fact, eBay employees will tell you that there is nothing wrong with charging a small handling fee to cover eBay/PayPal costs.
