Jury Duty.. Again!

I don't know how they choose jurors but somehow I've gotten chosen twice in the past decade. This time its for the US district court. Unlike the local courts, you're on the juror list for like 3 months. I've been on it since October and I've been pretty lucky since all my trials were canceled or delayed. Now that my time is almost up, they're trying to stick me on some jury. The pisser is that the court gave they gave me starts a couple days before Thanksgiving and I'm planning on going out of town. At this point, I've told them I can do it for a few days but anything beyond that, I'm outta there. Let em come and arrest me.

Judges are usually pretty nice to jurors who have a previous legitimate engagement. Although, if they don't let you off the hook, can you lie? :) For example, if the criminal case is about abortion, say you have strong feelings about it and you feel your bias could sway the jury. Judges and lawyers want jurors that are as impartial as possible...or so we are led to believe. :P

Tell them that you are recovering from a serious auto accident and that you just had knee surgery.
Send in an X-ray.
You will be excused.

I told the judge that I had previous plans and he didn't give me that much hell over it... at least compared to a few other people. One girl was a college student, asking to get out for school. The judge told her that jury duty was good for her education. :D

I got out of it anyway. After like 3 hours of questions they narrowed it down to the final 12 or 13. I wasn't one of them. I did feel bad for one of the women there as she was very pregnant. I can't imagine its comfortable, sitting in those jury chairs for two days.

I've been chosen three times in the last ten years. The first time I was selected and we all found the subject guilty. The second, I was excused due to my job, and the third, I was selected and sat around all day only to be told the subject pled out. And yes, there was a couple of pregnant ladies and they weren't too happy about being there.

The last time I got called in I told em I would loose my rental house if I had to be there a month becuase it was some kind of grand jury or something and could run that long. I also am the foreman of my job and I doubt they would want to loose me that long and I can't pay my bills on 10 bucks a day.
They excused me again and wished me better luck in the future and maybe I could serve some other time...
If they really want people to serve they should at least pay a living wage becuase many small businesses like the one I work for wont or can't afford to pay your wage while your serving.

WOW..I have never been on jury duty. I just wish if my time comes, I do not have anything too important or at least too interesting coming up.
