I know someone's gotta pay the bills but some of the pop-ups are just too much !! ...I just had to reboot in order to gain access to my Explorer !

The original pop-up places itself firmly in the upper left corner and has a lady face & "Meet Your Mate Match Search" text

That´s a c....., i guess i wouldn´t visit that site often if i got that po up would be constant, mail them and tell them that they´re pushing the limit, having people getting away with those adds, oh well, we don´t have that stuff in portugal.

By the way, you live in texas right, could you check out a few prices for me?, like volcano 7+ and a non conductive shim for PIII ?

Hit alt-f4 with that window on top. That should kill it.

A lot of the ad banner companies are now throwing in pop ups. Its a pain. I believe Dan told them not to do this for our account and you can see that it has done no good. I'll talk to Dan again and see.

Now what I'm thinkin' is why in the world would I even think of buying something from such annoying pple in the first place just stupid ill-designed way of doing business

The ones I cant stand are the shockwave banners that have sound ("hey look at me") - these are annoying as hell.

I know internet companies arent making that much money and are despirate but ads like these are not going help them get business.

There should be more banners on this site advertising CD-RW drives like that nice Yamaha F1 banner instead of the annoying banner with the girl talking like you guys noted above already.

Add these IP's to your firewall's restricted sites:

216.34.209.13
168.143.179.190
205.180.85.40

And you won't see any popups or float-ins or annoying gifs here anymore

That have worked for me for months now.
If in the future they put new lousy stuff, right click it to see the properties and add their IP or DNS too.

I'm still hearing the one with the girl talking. I can't figure what banner it comes from though. Hopefully Ian can get rid of this soon because I'm sure its annoying a lot more people than myself.

It was from advertising.com I removed them from the ad system.

You guys never clicked on their stuff anyway so they won't be missed.

Are they just annoying, or annoying because they have sound?

I just ask because for some reason the ads just seemed to be amazingly LOUD on my system!

Forcing me to quickly adjust any level of anything on my system so an ad is tolerable will only lead me to ignore whatever they are selling...

Thanks Ian. I usually browse with animation and Active-X disabled, so while I can see the ads, I don't get bombarded with the noise and flashing. Nevertheless, it is good to see you are watching out for us. I'll try to click a few more ads to watch out for you and CDRLabs too.

By the way, I find that most of the banner ads displayed here are not objectionable, and are generally well targeted. I sometimes even click on ad because it actually interests me (like the ULead Photo ad)

If we had more sponsors (retail stores or manufacturers.. contact me if you're interested ) I'd get rid of the popups and unrelated junk altogether. Unfortunately those are the ones that are paying the bills right now.

We don't bombard you with popups every page either like some websites do. The ad company we're using right now feeds you an ad once per day/session and once you've seen them all, you won't get them again for another week.

What browser are you using? On IE 5.0 and 6.0, open the "Tools->Internet Options" dialog. Select the "Security" tab, select the "Internet" content zone, then choose "Custom Level...". A better solution may be one of the general web filter programs such as:

Just make sure to support our favorite site by allowing banner ads on CDRLabs to display (although you can still turn off the sound and animation)

I just set up my software firewall to block the site, it's cookies and scripts.

I've done that with most of the pop ups here.
