I was looking at a page here, and a message box popped up asking if I wanted to install something called "browser enhancer". Of course, I clicked "Cancel", but the box kept re-appearing until I closed the browser window. I've never seen this message before, and Spybot S&D (with latest updates) doesn't find any spyware, so I don't think it has anything to do with any software already installed on my computer.

Get AdSubtract Pro. I use it and it works like a charm.

I'm tempted to ban people using such things. Everyone wants something for free...

CDRecorder, I think I know what ad you're talking about. Some install message comes up when you put your mouse over it. I'll try to get rid of it if I can.

Thanks, Ian! :)

Really, the only reason that I minded that is because it wouldn't go away when I closed it.

You do know that the bulk of the regulars use Ad Blockers...

all the more reason for them to stop. (and a large portion of them have broadband anyway)
CDRLabs could do with the (meager) income from the (very little) advertising it does.

I probably wouldn't mind taking ads on CDRLabs, it's just those 1 millionth visitor that rolls across the screen that I can't stand. Actually, as I type this, 2 banner ads are being displayed for some reason.

That one is pretty annoying, but I can live with it since it only appears once per day per computer. If it appeared on every page, though, I'd definitely be tempted to try to block it.

It happens just about every page load when I view the site without ad blocking equipment...

Are you using any cookie-blocking programs? Maybe the ads know not to pop up every time because of a cookie which is being blocked.

Yep, if you have cookies enabled, you wouldn't see it so often.

I don't, although sometimes I'm tempted to start doing so when (on occasion) a call to "media.fastclick.net" takes 2 min. or more to resolve , but that may be a problem with my provider (I'm on dialup). What annoys me more is that the ads sometimes keep me from stepping through cached posts offline.

those 1 millionth visitor that rolls across the screen

I'm not sure if it's Opera or Windows 95, but on my communications rig, these things don't work properly. They start to "roll", then get stuck as a white square on the upper left, just inside the window. I can't click them away, so they just hang there for the session and block part of the navigation menu.

Here's a new peeve: this ad started showing up yesterday:

It's so wide that I have to scroll the forum index.

Sure, I'll look into it. I think I haven't seen it myself, but I think I know what's doing it.

This just happened to me a few minutes ago as well. Annoying as heck. Scary too, until you figure out that it's not spyware on your machine.
