Hi

how about a new forum which only deals with CD/DVD media and their quality with different CD/DVD drives ;)

I'd also like to see a DVDinfopro forum so that all DVDinfopro threads can be concentrated there for both those who want to read them and for those who don't want to see them appearing from time to time on certain places.

NicW actually requested this the other day. I have not responded back to him yet, but my my general thoughts are these: a) do we have enough DVDINFOpro discussions to warrant a special section and b) NicW doesn't really spend a lot of time here. Then again, he might be around more if we had a section.. who knows.

klumy, I've brought that up before. I'd do it if I could find someone to actively moderate it and organize the info.

My close helpers and I will definately be around more if such a section was made. The last few days have shown a couple of users simply cannot behave themselves on forums, and do not have the users (or forum customers for that matter) in mind.

Zebra and I are willing to moderate such a section for the benefit of genuine DVDInfoPro interested users. This has been very successful one on other forum recently where good active discussion now takes place.

I have given your idea of opening V2 of the program as complete freeware upon the release of V3 and I have decided to do this. So V2 will continue to be updated as far as media codes, speeds, bugs fixes etc.

cheers
NicW

The Media Compatibility threads (CD and DVD) have plenty of information, but I'm not sure if they warrant a new forum dedicated solely to them. It may be easier for results to come in as new threads (i.e. Member X tests Ritek G04 with NEC 2500A and posts his results in a new thread on the CD/DVD Media Compatibility Forum) rather than adding results on to the sticky topics. Although, maybe new threads would cause more clutter.

Another issue: frequency. The CD-RW Compatibility thread has really waned. Sure, it receives plenty of views, but not many posts anymore. The infrequency of posts/updates may not warrant a forum dedicated to CD/DVD Media Compatibility. Although, frequency may pick up again, what with DVD burners on the rise, in popularity at least.

I still update the CD-RW Compatibility List whenever I receive new results. And one day, perhaps I will take on the task of organizing the DVD Compatibility thread into a list like its CD-RW counterpart. :) I am kind of purposely waiting for DVD technology to become more mainstream. There isn't even a pervasive error checking program (like Nero CD Speed) for DVD's, is there? Yeah yeah yeah, I know its full title is Nero CD/DVD Speed, but does it actually check C1 or C2 errors (or whatever the terminology is for DVD's) on a fairly accurate basis?

It's debatable, but I would say no (and often DO say no).

Actually, I was thinking of recommending rdgrimes to moderate the proposed media forum and dvdinfopro forum, if that ever happens.

On which other forum exactly?

I think a new Forum / Topic for DVD/CD media would be awesome =D> . If you have someone willing to moderate, why not give it a try? It should not hurt anything and also should be very little work for you (site admins). I know DVD media posts are in other forums but it would be nice if they were all in one. For example media gets posted to the DVD recordable, DVDROM and CD-R. I think media will only get to be a more popular subject esp. with DL.

I also know very little about media quality and brands. I think having a forum/separate topic on it would help me learn more, not mention having it more organized [-o< .
