If I were you, I would try to get it to start over a weekend, more people to bid at the last minute which is when people like to bid. Also, why list beforehand and have it start later? They charge you for that...

Well, you sort of answered the question about why the late start:
I decided to list it from home, because I have been very busy at work, and I therefore kept putting it off (I had a Word doc at the office with the listing contents).
However, I wanted a specific start time. It only cost 10 cents extra anyway.
I figured if it starts at 9 AM PST, it will also end at 9 AM PST, as opposed late at night.

I have noticed that when I do a 5 day auction, I don't get the higher bids
till the last day or so, which is why I just did a 3 day auction this time, since the longer I wait, the more likely the chance of a price drop...

The reserve price has already been met with the first bidder.

I am wondering whether I should list the 2nd one now or wait a day till the other auction finishes...

Shipping to Canada is fine, trust me, I'm the local shipping guru.
Just use UPS Standard to Canada, and it is not that much more than UPS Ground to various places here in the states. Just make it clear that the buyer in Canada would be responsible for any customs charges.
UPS Standard to Canada generally takes about 5 business days to get your package delivered, that is from like, Minneapolis to Vancouver. Anyways, you get the point. UPS Standard to Canada is good shipping rates to Canada with guaranteed delivery times.

The customs charges is what I was most worried about; I don't want negative feedback from a buyer because the customs charges were higher than he or she anticipated...

Yeah, aviationwiz is the UPS shipping guru...a bit biased, if you ask me.

If you don't want tariffs or duties, borne by either by you or the recipient, use something from USPS such as Global Priority Mail, Airmail Parcel Post, or Global Express Mail (EMS). In all my experience selling and sending items to Canada, the buyers thank me for using USPS because they don't want to pay hidden taxes or duties with UPS, FedEx, DHL, or any other courier.

Now then, am I biased toward USPS? For international shipments, you bet! For domestic ones, it depends. For low-weight packages, Priority Mail can't be beat; it's cheaper and quicker than Ground service from other couriers. For heavier items, I'll pick UPS, FedEx, or Airborne, depending on price and who I'm sending it to.

If you are going to use USPS (I STRONGLY recomend against this) make sure it's insured, and make sure you get delivery confirmation and tracking. I sent something up to dolphin (luckily not worth much) took 2 weeks via airmail, and I'm up north as far as the US goes. Airmail is supposed to only take one week. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE USPS PARCEL POST. As far as customs fees and all that, it does not matter on the carrier, it is up to the Canadian Authorities on how much (if any) to charge for importation fees. For a 3 lb. box (the weight of my 708 shipped) it would be as low as $9.75 or as high as $15.45 for Standard to Canada, depending of course on the destination zone. (Oh yeah, those retail pieces of crap like Staples and OM will charge you extra) This is day definite delivery with the UPS Guarantee to back it up.

Those rates include pickup at your house even! Brokerage fees, duty, and taxes will be billed to the importer, unless otherwise indicated by the shipper. If you have any questions, feel free to call UPS at: 1-800-782-7892 (for intl.) Domestic= 1-800-PICK-UPS

Keep in mind that with the USPS, once it's in Canda, it's up to the Canadian Postal Service (which is terrible) I can't stress enough how much you should use UPS.

Airmail Parcel Post: $14.25 (claimed 4-10 days, count on 10)

Global Express Mail: $18.25 (2-5 days, count on 5)

None of those include insurance, delivery confirmation or tracking, which is the default at UPS. (Insurance at UPS for over $100 insurance is $0.35 per $100 insurance) They also do not have any guarantee backing up a timely delivery.

The USPS is great for domestic needs, but only if it does not have a large value. Anything worth over $50 goes out UPS with me. DHL, FedEx, never. USPS Priority Mail Flate Rate Envelopes are good, if your item will fit in them, only $3.85, and that includes delivery confirmation if you print off the labels online, that can't be beat, but for a package, I would never consider using USPS Priority Mail (Express Mail, MAYBE)

The USPS is also good for overseas shipments, value to it or no value to it, it's simply a lot cheaper than UPS and DHL. However, this is Canada, so it's quite a different story.

I've had zero problems with Canada Post, both sending and receiving packages. But hey, that's just me.

Global Priority Mail is the cheapest international solution that USPS offers, and it does not cost a fortune. I priced a 3 lb. package to Canada (Edmonton, just for the heck of it) on www.ups.com and it totaled US$10.15, that does not include tariffs/duties. The delivery time is 7 business days. Granted, UPS costs less than any of the USPS options, however, the duties/tariffs, as aviationwiz pointed out, will be between $9.75 and $15.45. That's a heck of a lot for duties! As a buyer, I would be irate if I had to pay that much in taxes. So, in the long-run, USPS is cheaper for the buyer. Believe me, they'll thank you for it. Oh, Global Priority Mail and Global Express Mail are still quicker than what UPS quoted me.

BTW, aviationwiz, Your personal experience is not the standard across the board, and neither is mine, for that matter. Therefore, don't belittle anyone (or any company, in this instance) saying they will take the maximum number of days to deliver a package. The fact of the matter is, you don't know for sure.

Ahem, Global Express Mail does include insurance in the price: up to $100 free.

We don't even know if VEFF will change his mind about shipping to Canada. So, if he decides to change his mind, let him decide what courier he wants to use. This entire discussion may be all for naught.

No, No, the shipping charges are between $9.75 and $15.45, I just pulled those numbers out of my UPS Book.

My USPS Intl. Expiriences:

Airmail to Canada (2 Weeks) LATE
Airmail to New Zealand (7-8 days) Just barely on time
Airmail to different city in New Zealand (1.5 weeks) LATE
Global Priority Airmail to Australia (6-7 days) Just barely on time

Now you see why I expect it to take the longest number of days rated.

The high bidder was someone in the US, who is only 1 business day away by FedEx Ground (usually 20% or so cheaper than UPS Ground). There is a FedEx station less than 10 minutes from my house, that is open till 8 PM and even on weekends.

FedEx Ground isn't guaranteed, which doesn't work, when your customer needs it to be recieved a certain day, and paying extra for next day or second day service would be very costly when shipping large packages. Last time I priced a package online, I did FedEx for the he** of it, and they were about twice as much as UPS when comparing the same service (2nd day to 2nd day)

My company and I would never even consider shipping anything via FedEx, DHL, or any other non-union carrier. We use UPS, and USPS, that's it. Never had a shipping problem since I came on as shipping manager.

I have used FedEx Ground for months now only because the service was reliable (no complaints of damage or lost packages by any buyers) and costs 20% or so less than UPS.
The delivery date for FedEx Ground may not be guaranteed, but I have not had any problems yet.
Besides, when it comes to Ground service, I don't believe UPS makes any delivery date guarantees as to either?

I will have to change my sig on Sunday when the 2nd PX-708A auction
is over.
