That's how I got my NEC 7200S. Had to change the firmware from OEM to retail, but it wasn't too difficult.

Someone has listed a DW1655.
They used the first page of the CDRLabs review without quoting or naming the source. [-X

(removed the link to the 1670)

lol.. what a tool.

There's no way I'd buy a 1670. That turned out to be a horrible drive.

Are the DW1640 really desired items? I have one in a box, sitting in my closet. Haven't used a a long time. Pristine shape. Is this something someone would want?

I had a 1640 as well, gave it to my bro. It was a great drive when I used it, but honestly, I think someone buying it now would purely be for nostalgia purposes. The DVD technology isn't gonna be around forever, heck, it's already been superseded by Blu-Ray! That being said, if you can get some decent money for it on eBay, by all means, go for it! A quick buck is a quick buck, right? :)

I think there is still a small market for them. I still use my 1640s.
I sold my Yamaha CRW-F1 recently on eBay. It had a black face plate and still worked perfectly, although I hadn't been using it for quite awhile. Cleared almost $60 after eBay and PayPal fees and shipping cost.

Damn, I still have a CRW-F1 somewhere. I have a bunch of classic Plextors too... not that I'd part with them.

I still use a 1655 in here, it one of the ones I trust to give me tests of my burns though it is now starting to have the tray issues the last ones seem to get. I still have at least one 1620, maybe 2 1640's and a bunch of other makes that I tried after the BenQ's went away and we were all trying to find the next be all end all burner.
There are several various ones stashed away in a storage hutch/seat thing at the head of my bed and some old LiteOn cdrw drives from back when I first signed up here and DVD burners hadn't happened yet.
I have sold a few to my sisters coworkers of the ones that don't have a special place for me but the best ones I tend to keep as placemarkers in my history of burners and the best ones I've had to date. I should get rid of/sell or toss the also rans as we only have so much space here.
