Seconded, at least in terms of rebate fulfillment. They have an awful reputation for refusing to honor valid rebates.

Can't speak for the MadDog MIR, but (as stated in a previous thread), Target has the 100-pack of Memorex 48x CD-R's for $19.99...no rebate...which I have now...for no reason...I'm just a sucker for a good deal on good discs...

Who made your Memorex discs?

LiteOnGuy, the Memorex discs are "Made In Taiwan". Haven't opened 'em yet...won't for awhile (got 2 50 packs open, and burn less than 2 discs/week).

Going upgrade my system soon, and add a Plextor Premium drive...then I'll burn a TON of CD's (got 300+ DVD's to convert to DivX...thats what the CD-R's are for). With GigaRec, the CD-R's work out a bit cheaper than DVD+R's...

I'm guessing the Memorex discs are CMC's...last batch of "Made In Taiwan" Memorex's I had were CMC...again, sorry about the late reply...

does the saving justify the higher price of the Plextor Premium ?

the Optorite DVD burner, apart from burning DVDs, also has HD-Burn which is kind of like GigaRec.

Considering my only burner right now is a PX-504A (which only burns CD-R's at 16x), then, yeah. I doubt it'd be a faster reader than my Lite-On 166S, but it'll be nice to have. It's only $110, anyway. I about paid that for the Lite-On 48125W when it came out.

Besides, I've already got 450+ CD-R's, and will need 300+ of 'em for the movie backups...

(For those who are curious: I'm building a PC w/2x200GB hard drives and hooking it to the TV to use as a movie/music jukebox. I'll be upgrading my main PC to a 3.0C P4 to help make DivX's out of all the DVD's I've got faster)...

Edit: Thanks for the tip about the Optorite burner, too. I was planning on a second DVD burner dual-format support. 24x w/HD burn is better than 4x GigaRec. Hmm...maybe I will just get this instead, especially since there's not to big of a difference time-wise between 24x and 52x...

Question: Will HD-BURN work under Nero 5.5x/6.x? I'd rather not use B-Recorder (name says it all)...

If it can, I'm ordering this drive right now! $90 more than the 52x Plextor, 24x vs. 4x burning, 1.4GB vs <1GB, DVD+/-RW vs. just CD-R/RW.

for more info about tha Optorite DD0203 DVD burner, read in this topic:
Just got my Optorite DD0203 from accupc.com
apparently Nero does support the HD-Burn feature.

i'm wondering about the cross-compatibility of HD-burn and GigaRec...
if you do get both the Plex Premium and Optorite DD0203 you could test it for us...

:P

Probably just one-or-the-other; and since Nero supports HD-BURN...It'll be the Optorite.

As for cross compatibility, as Ian said, GigaRec pretty much only works in the Plex when it's set to it's max. level. Don't know about HD-BURN.

Guess I'll be ordering the Optorite burner soon!
