Those of you interested in a discounted upgrade to Nero 6 should read this thread over at CDFreaks:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php ... post444817

I suggest you act quickly if you want to give it a try. I don't know how much longer Ahead will be selling licenses for Nero 5.5.

Apparently CDFreaks switched to a new server, and some people are having trouble reaching it via URLs with the host name. Perhaps CDFreaks changed IP addresses and the new DNS entries aren't being propagated to everyone's ISPs properly. So, go ahead and try the hard-coded IP address variant aviationwiz supplied if you do have trouble with the normal host-name variant.

Hmmm, I got a fun little error at the final step submitting my CC.

Sorry, the only credit card authorization is in this moment not available.
We will contact you within our next working day for a manual procedure.

I wonder what that means...

You're welcome, although the credit really goes to Williams from the French site 2037.org and then to CDFreaks.

I hope not, but it might be a sign that Ahead is in the midst of switching over to selling Nero 6 on their website and this discounted offer will soon expire. Of course it might just mean that their credit card validation service was temporarily down for unrelated reasons and you are still good to go.

Did the message indicate that, apart from credit card validation, Ahead otherwise accepted and recorded your order? If not, you might want to try to somehow document that you attempted to order while the offer was still good. Maybe they would be understanding and extend the offer for you since the problem was at their end.

I printed the pages before and after. Plenty of proof there, but as long as they don't charge me, I wouldn't pursue it...

It sounds to me like my order has been placed, but I'll need to manually submit payment or something. We'll see, I hope.

Seems like a great deal. I'm concerned about the "OEM" status of the serial key.

Can anyone who has the regular upgrade key confirm that their version says "OEM" as well?

Sounds like a lot of bugs as well in version 6.0. I hope those get worked out quickly.

Thanks for the head's up (twice)

I'm going to pull the pin on this, but I'm @ work right now.

It's a shame you need the Serial # of your present install before it will work. My Nero serial # is not something I have handy right now...

I got 3/4 of the way thorugh the order process when it wanted my present Nero serial # and credit card # on the same screen.

The exact same thing happened to me so I took an early lunch ;)

BTW, I did end up getting both the 5.5 and the 6.0 serial numbers in the mail, now I need to go take a very early lunch and install it! :D

How fast was it before you got your e-mail message with the serial number?

Did you get a seperate message with the Nero 6 serial # ?

I'm 45 minutes from home, and we're short 3 dispatchers today (again).
Do more with less seems to be common place anymore.

The experience, since Monday, has been that people receive both emails (one with the 5.5 serial number and one with the 6 serial number) within a couple of minutes after completing their order.

I think it took longer in dhc014's case because the credit card validation system was down when he ordered.

Mine were both sent to me 14 hours after I placed my order. The Nero 5.5 and Nero 6.0 Serials were sent at the same time, but in separate emails.

BTW, the serial that I used when ordering was from a Memorex Bundled installation. For any of you wondering where you can find your bundled serial number, see here.

So, as I see it, I buy an upgrade serial no. for an upgrade from 4.0 to 5.5 for $19.99 and then I will also get a serial no. for Nero 6 as I purchased 5.5 after the specified date?

This is regardless of the fact that I don't have 4.0 and therefore won't install the 4.0 to 5.5 update?

That seems to be the case, CowboySlim.

I just pulled the trigger on it too.

Thanks cfitz!!!

PS - got my 6.0 key in 30 minutes. Nero is awesome!!!!

Remeber that although it is listed as an update from 4.0 to 5.5 on the site, it is actually the generic update to a retail 5.5 serial number/license. You can use it to update an OEM, bundled or retail copy of version 4, 5 or 5.5 of Nero to retail 5.5. Nero reps have discussed this in the past when Nero 6 wasn't even a gleam in Eberlein's eye.

My understanding is that even if you bought a full retail package of 5.5 in a box at your local store prior to May 1 (so you don't qualify for the totally free upgrade) you can still "upgrade" that retail 5.5 serial to another 5.5 retail number and thus get the upgrade to 6 at discount. It seems a little odd to upgrade a product to the exact same version, but it is only fair. Ahead wouldn't want to penalize people for buying a full retail version rather than a bundled or OEM version.

Last question. From what Spaz says above, I'll need the serial number from my OEM/bundled 5.5.x version and $19.99 from my credit card to get a 5.5 update serial number and then the 6 serial number will follow shortly.

Yep OEM/Bundled 5.5 SN + $19.99 = Nero 5.5 retail SN and Nero 6 SN

By the way, not that this matters for the topic at hand, but OEM is not the same as bundled. You have a bundled serial number that came with your Memorex burner.

Sorry David, I was actually directing my last post towards CowboySlim, but you managed to sneak a post in between. Still, I guess the point does apply generally.
