Thanks for posting these unadvertised specials. That 160 GB drive for $99 was just what I needed to upgrade my Tivo.

Speaking of TIVOs, what's a good one? I'm interested in getting into this arena but have no information on it. My wife wants me to start burning VCDS (or SVCDs) of TV shows. Thanks.

Are you looking for a TV capture card or TiVO? I had no idea that TiVO could create (S)VCD's.

I'm not sure.
I'm looking for something that I can hook up to coax/ cable, record the show(s) to a HD and then be able to burn those shows to a VCD/SVCD. A TV capture card would work, I guess, but I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that a TiVO could do that. Are TiVOs networkable? Can I make a TiVO part of my home network? Thanks.

No idea regarding TiVO since I never used one. You could buy a TV capture card, hook it up to your cable/satellite connection, record shows, then make (S)VCD's. Any ATI TV Wonder or All-In-Wonder card will do the trick, and I recommend ATI cards as I've had success with them. You could use another brand though; I'd suggest doing a search on Google for reviews of TV capture/tuner cards. Likewise, you can search for reviews for video editing software. Personally, I capture using 320 x 240, 30fps AVI video with 44.100KHz, 16bit, stereo audio. It produces HUGE files, but the quality is excellent since less than 1% of frames are dropped during recording. I then splice the AVI to omit anything I don't want and save it as a WMV file in Windows Movie Maker. I've also used NeroVision Express 2, but for me, Windows Movie Maker is a piece of cake to use. You can use NeroVision (or many other software packages) to save files as AVI's or MPG's. If I have an AVI, WMV, or ASF file that I want to convert to MPG so I can make a (S)VCD out of it, I use TMPGENC.

for me 320x240 is not high enough resolution, I am considering getting the Kworld TV tuner from newegg for $39 it can capture 640x480 and it has an FM tuner. I haven't found any reviews on it though.
Hmmm

I haven't gotten that far yet. I think the way to go is with the Adaptec USB video capture unit, bundled with the MyDVD software. You hook up the S-Video output from the Tivo to the Adaptec unit, master your DVD on your PC, and burn the DVD.
