Dell Home has the high end Plextor PX-708A 8x DVD+/-RW Burner for a low $180.56 after rebate, shipped free. No tax in many areas.

Looks like computer3G has the correct bar codes 7_6507510685_8, 7_6507510686_5, or 7_6507510698_8 that you can use with the 30 rebate in the above post. The price is 189.85 shipped - 30.00 rebate gets you the Plextor for 159.85 when all is said and done.

Sounds good. I might have to take advantage of this deal.

Does anyone know if manufacturers will be producing drives capable of 8x DVD-R writing?

Pioneer and Benq will be releasing drives that will be capable of burning to 8x DVD-R media in January or February. But, the 8x dvd-r media will most likely not be available until summer. They also claim that you will be able to burn at 8x speed on 4x dvd-r. Will have to wait and see if this is the case.

You're better off getting a Plextor dvd-burner that is 8x dvd+r and 4x
dvd-r capable.

They have the TDK 8x which is the exact same as the plextor for 159.99 at staples right now.
