Look for the Grey spindle to get Ricoh as I have read in other threads the one with the black spindle are CMC magnetics, which will not burn at 8x speeds on 8x DVD-Burners.

I bought 2x25 packs with black spindles last week, and they were ricohs... Don't know about the 100 packs.

It's not jet black, more like a grey black. The color is in-between the memorex grey and black spindle.

Also I noticed they'd 2 kind of tdk spindles, one has a lot more of those white circular rings on top than the other one. I got the one with a lot of rings. The edge of the discs seem to be more smooth than the other one so I got it and it's CMC

I picked one up today, but haven't opened it. It doesnt have the traditional plastic rings at the top, instead it has one really tall thick ring (looks like rubber or foam?). Anyone have any idea what brand these would be?

Edit: After closer observation I noticed that it isn't one big tall ring, but 4 or 5 foam rings stacked ontop of another.

I saw the same one at Best Buy today. Was kind of scared it might be the CMC discs, so I did not buy it.

They might be Ricoh brand since waver123 bought the one with a lot of plastic rings, which ended up being CMC discs.

waver123, can you help me out in trying to figure if the 100 pack I got are CMC? It's hard to tell, but I can make out a number on the edge of the center (not the clear plastic ring, but where the writable label meets the center of the disc). It reads SSOW3A-###### (# = string of numbers and/or letters; too hard to make out). Can you check if your CMC discs have a similar string?

LionKing, can you describe how your spindle was packaged? Did it have a bunch of foam/rubber rings or were they plastic? Any numbers like I described above?

How bad are CMC DVD+R? Are they as bad as their cd-rs once were/are?

Lionking, thanks for the info about how many foam rings were on your spindle. Unfortunatly the rest of the info you gave wont help out much, as I am trying to find out if the spindle I got are CMC without openeing the package. Can you tell me if your discs have a number physically printed on the edge of the center (not the clear plastic ring, but where the writable label meets the center of the disc). The discs I have says:

SSOW3A-######

(# = string of numbers and/or letters; too hard to make out through the plastic spindle).

Damn, thats a different layout than mine, so I'm guessing I got CMC. I'll go back to BestBuy today and see if they have any other spindles that look different...

Hi Infinity,
Sorry I'm at work, will post code once I got back home. You can download a program to figure out the code (dvdinfo?). The one I got is the one with many rings. I'm not sure if I should try my luck again with the one with 2 ring :-?

Infinity looks like we have the same disks.
actually you're looking it from the wrong way, you should read it from the bottom side of the disk. Mine is

C+DR47G-AFWO22

from the top you read AFWO22 into SSOW3A :D

waver123,

LOL, I was wondering why some of the numbers looked funny. Anyway, thanks for the confirmation. I guess I'll return them since I still havent opened the package.
