up here in Canada we can get those Verbatim film reel DVDRs for $4.01ea CDN thanks to Futureshop selling them for $5.99ea, and staples for $9.95ea. Staples in Canada has a 150% price match+beat policy, so when you bring in proof of futureshop pricing, you can get the 3paks for $4.01 (roughly $2.87 per 3pak in USD).

That's a DARN good price for those Verbatim film reel DVDRs!!

So I picked up 2 3paks of each (2 of DVD-R and 2 of DVD+R) and considered myself lucky :D

Funny you should mention the Verbatim Movie reel DVD's, I was in Wal-Mart today and did a price check on a 5pk of +r Movie reels ....$9.99. I thought that was way too high at $2 a piece. Am I missing something here?

Well, regular Canadian pricing on those is between $12.99 and $15.99, so if you normally pay only $2 per disc, then you're lucky! but if that's your sale price, then I kinda feel sorry for you :o

MCC stands for Mitsubishi Chemical? Not CMC, right?

From previous posts, I remember reading Mitsubishi Chemical producing good quality discs.

In Canda, all the film reel DVD-Rs are made by CMC with the MCC code. THe DVD+Rs are made b MCC with the MCC code.

Yes, MCC stands for Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp... I'm not sure what CMC stands for.

CMC stands for CMC Magnetics Corporation, it's one of those wierd ones, there was a long thread about it a while back. I don't have the time to search for that thread, but I'm sure someone does.

I need some new DVD media.

I am considering getting either he Memorex 50 pk at BB or the Ridata 50 pack at newegg (same price for since newegg charges sales tax to my state).

Does anyone know who makes the Memorex media (i.e. is it Ricoh Japan)?
I know the 25 packs are now CMC, as opposed to Ricoh, but I was wondering whether the 50 packs are still Ricoh.

I believe the Ridata are Ricoh Japan, so I may be safer going with them.

I'm so tired of getting jerked around with the various manufacturers that are hidden until after you buy it. I'm only buying Taiyo Yuden anymore, which is more expensive...but no more hassle...and I want long term quality, longevity, and reliability for my 8X media.

I couldn't believe how many failures I was getting with even Verbatum 8x DVD+R, and Memorex was disgusting failure rates on my Memorex True Image 8x

I believe they disabled it due to the large number of people using it.
I think they know of the hot deals sites that gave out the info...

The Memorex may either be CMC or Ritek, and the RiData will of course be Ritek. Even if you get Ritek discs in the Memorex, the RiData will be of higher quality, as Memorex always uses the worst stuff they can find. Go for the RiData.

Not entirely true... Memorex does have *SOME* standards... I mean, they did eventually ditch Ritek as a supplier didn't they

But seriously, you'll find much worse Ritek media out there then Memorex would have... in fact, Memorex's Ritek media would likely be quite good. Ritek's policy on media sales is to give the best stuff to the big brand labels... which WOULD have been Maxell, Memorex, and Samsung (before they switched) as well as TDK, Traxdata and probably one or two others I'm not thinking of.

i agree with d._rex, memorex cdr 48x was pretty bad with most of burners i tried & i had serious problems with 708a with 4x +r memorex disks; however, 4x -r disks problem's culprit was 708a since disks from same spindle did ok on 107d & 812s (they were cmc) dvd media of memorex is at least ok if not better than most

btw, od's 2*25pk verbatim deal was pulled off because od made mistake & the coupon was working with one spindle; that made about 6usd for 25disks verbatim disks; unforunately the disks are rated @ 2x -r & 2.4x +r

It use to be so easy to tell the difference with these two containers. All this confusion with all of the manufacturers switching brands is starting too really piss me off.
