At Tiger Direct.ca

Plus shipping.

These things sell at Tigerdirect.com (US store front) for $29.99 USD.

They're much cheaper in Canada: nearly $10 CDN per spindle of 50.

The downside: no free shipping anymore.

Man, I hate that about Tigerdirect! Since they buy almost all their media through a grey market supplier, and not official channels, they always are able to undercut all the people going through official channels.

It's companies like this that force respectable businesses into shady dealings or bankruptcy!

Just curious, who makes the recording layer for those HP discs?

What, you mean the dye type or the manufacturer?

Right, I meant the dye manufacture.

Deal @ TigerDirect.ca is over, now the price is @ $43. CTY (www.cty.ca)now carries SmartBuy 8x DVD+R 50pcs spindle for $50, they accept online orders.

The dye type is almost certainly AZO, and the manufacturer is almost certainly HP.

No Prob! I'd happily steal any customer away from Tigerdirect.ca  but I won't compete against www.blankmedia.ca.

One thing though, if you really want a branded surface... wouldn't inkjet printable discs work just as well, if not better?

Update: deal is back on. Price is now $34.99 CDN.

It had jumped to $42.99 for 24 hours, now its back down.

I pulled the trigger and got 3 spindles.

$ 134.83 CDN shipping & taxes included.

That's about 90 cents CDN a DVD.

This spindle is selling for $29.99 USD at Tiger's US webstore.

Compare this to the Memorex 50 spindle @ Future Shop & BB this week for $59.99 CDN. $25 CDN cheaper per spindle, but you have to pay for shipping.

Shipping for 3 spindles of 50 was $12.27CDN to Ontario.

I figure I saved about $70 CDN today. Even after shipping.

I've used the CMC made Khypermedia DVD's and not a coaster in the 100 or so I've burned.

My wife is NOT going to be impressed.

As long as you understand that *ALL* that means is that every portion of the disc is readable at some unmentioned speed. So some parts of the disc may require slow downs to read it. I would HIGHLY suggest doing a transfer rate test at 8x or faster if you can.

NEC Internal 4x2.4x12x DVD+RW Burner, 16x10x40x CD-RW
Is what I have.
But Info tool shows the read speed is 5x ! And I can't change it in the drop down box. Grrr.

I have some digging to do in order to fix this slow reading.

is read speed locked in the firmware? I ripped a DVD a week ago @ near 11x, so I have no idea why this is going on now.

OK. I rebooted. Inserted a commercial pressed disc. No troubles at all.

Insert a DVD+R and the speed drops to 5x.

So its got to be in the hacked firmware.
