Pickup available at many stores.

They don't expect to have it available for shipping (online) for five weeks.

At least now their price is far more reasonable than when they had it for $179.99 and no rebate was available.

I will probably wait a bit since I am interested in seeing how well it does, and since I am potentially interested in the Toshiba 5372 which writes dual layer discs ~ 25% faster and costs less, even without a rebate or the Benq 1620Pro.

Then again, I may just buy one since I still have almost $70 on my BB gift card; who knows ;)
Then again, I may wait a week or so for Dell to get it and get a real hot deal...

Sparco was going to get it in tomorrow, 11/2/04. The date now says 12/10/04. Plextor is behind the times.

This way I could have bought it from Staples. Oh well.

Was just in one of the local BB's today and saw they had two in stock. I was looking for a new DVD-ROM drive (my 166S still works, but its mushy buttons may not work well with my Antec case), but they want $50 for a Sony rebadged LiteOn 167. I just ordered the LiteOn for $30 (including S&H) from NewEgg.

I already have an NEC 3500A, so I didn't take a closer look at the Plextor.

Are you stupid? Do you not know how to order special order items from Ingram Micro? Wake up. But since you know everything I'll let you figure it out Mr. Smartypants. This goes for you too dodecahedron.

I think he is talking about the following:

If you know the Ingram Micro product code, you can special order anything they carry by calling Staples.
This way you can use Staples coupons, Price Matching etc. to sometimes get good deals.

A prominent hot deals forum member called TechGuy mentioned this a couple of years back, so I can't take credit for the info.

To order the Plextor drive from Staples you would go to the link I posted above. The item number is A29E266. To turn this into a Staples item number drop the A, add IM1 and reverse the rest of the letters in 2 groups of 3. So A29E266 would become IM1E92662.

You can order CPUs and mobos from Staples using this same method. If you can find it on Sparco.com and the Sparco.com item number begins with the letter "A" you can order it.

P4-530 LGA775 800MHZ HT SOC-T 3.0GHZ 1MB CACHE would be Staples item number IM1E00885. Call Staples up and check the price.

The beauty of this is you can Pricematch and throw on a coupon and get $40 off of a CPU. I've done it several times.

Thanks.
Not bad. Best price I have seen so far on this drive.Think I'll wait for prices on it to come down, especially since I haven't even used my two month old NEC 3500A ONCE yet!!!

Note that it may take a while to get:
"Usually ships in 1 - 2 weeks"
I know that isn't always accurate; just a heads up...

No problem.

I know, I ordered one, but I am in no hurry, I still have my Pioneer to hold me over. :D

I have a feeling that there will be a newer model soon after the rebates expire.

We will see.
