Staples sell Feb 21-22? Hey Hoxlund have a question...

PostPosted: Sat Feb 12, 2005 12:17 pm
by coadman
Ive read on the "net" where Staples is having a two-day sale, either 21-22 or 20-21 of Feb, with the I/O Magic 16xDVD for less than $40 after rebates. My question,,since the Staples store that my sister lives near in Oklahoma, always seems to sell out of thier "hot deals" prior to us arriving, can a person purchase the drive "now" , and return it or get a reduced price when the sale comes out the following week? If so, how do you go about getting the reduced price?
thanks,
coadman

Also, I've heard most of the I/O magics are BenQ1620, but a few are BTC, Now, I've read where someone bought one at Target, and it was a "magic spin", any idea by looking at the box, markings, serial number, what is in the box?

This is what was posted over on slickdeals....

Any way of Identifying, what drive is in the box, any particular markings to look at, size, etc? What drive do you have in your store?
thanks,
coadman

You may have problems with items that have rebates. A lot of times the rebate purchase period will be within the sales week.

What say you , Hoxlund?

If I would purchase this I/O magic prior to next week, would it still be available for all the discounts? Since it is a special for that 2 days only, the previous poster makes a valid point. Also, since you are the "Staples" man, will they make this available, online, for the two days, or is it only BM for those two days?
thanks,
coadman

It was available online during Black Friday, so that seems likely. I don't have any answers for your other questions, sorry. ;)

the rebates might be in the sales week, but again just return it and have the cashier put it on a cash card, then re-ring it so that your receipt shows no returns

it probably will be available online for that sale price, but you better be damn quick about buying it midnight that night the ad comes out

You have to have them do a full return and then a repurchase. Don't let them do an exchange or price match. Several companies employ different schemes to make sure they aren't fulfilling unnecessary rebates. Places like Best Buy now look to make sure the sales are at their advertised or current price, not price matches with a competitor, and the sales aren't to employees (employee discount) just to name a couple.

The BTC drive comes in a bigger box than the BenQ. The other noticable difference is the BTC has a sticker on the top or side of the box that states it's firmware "AOF" or "A0F". My 3 local Staple have not carried the BenQ version since Black Friday. Good Luck.

OK

What if I ordered it now, to make sure I get one(online), then come next Sunday,,,can I get the online service person to PM me immediately, and credit it back to charge card?

I am wondering why you want to go through so much hassle to buy I/O Magic 16 X drive for $110 and wait almost three months to get $30 back while you can buy the same retail drive at regular price from Newegg.com for only $85 without waiting for return of your rebate.

Well,,,the final price of $39.99(less tax) is one reason to wait for a rebate, now I wouldnt wait 3 months for an IO Magic(BTC), but I would a IO Magic(BenQ), besides, if I wanted to purchase one from NewEgg, I would most definitely buy this one, only about $16 more than what I will end up paying....http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... a=1,,,,,,I would never pay the $85 for the one you listed.

Advertised Ad:

I/O magic 16x dual layer external dvd burner Sku# 582300
$129.98-$20instant-$30easyrebate=$79.94

May be I am reading the above ad wrong, according to the advertisement the drive is $129.-$20 instant rebate to bring it down to $109 then there is $30 rebate which you have to pay for the drive $79.94 (+tax on $109)

staples.com is sold out of the 200GB Maxtors.. but I was able to get one from the local store. It probably helped that the weather is bad and the roads are shitty. Otherwise they woulda been sold out by 10am.

I ordered one of the 200GB Maxtors this morning around 9 am EST from the website along with 1 spindle each of the TEON DVD+R/DVD-R. I didn't want to wait in line at the store. Shipping was free and the website allows you to submit the rebates online right after purchase. No UPC's or receipts required. Has anyone ever been burned with Staples Easy Rebates program?

My experience with staples show that they are among the best to honor their commitment to rebates and their rebates takes less than 30 days to be processed and send to the customers.
