BB Plextor 716A/SW Price Match

PostPosted: Mon Mar 07, 2005 2:59 pm

Not sure if this qualifies for a hot deal or not but BB has lowered there standard price on the 716A & SW to $101.

Since I bought mine at $129 with a $30 rebate, less then 30 days ago, they price matched me and gave me $30 cash back. Net the drive cost me about $70.

Hopefully this will help someone else.

I think that there is a store independent rebate of $30 thru 3/31. Check buy.com or newegg to download the form.

Hey, lookee here, I'm at 1111. I'm not going to post ever again. I'll just keep editing this one and use links to get to the new posts that I'm really responding to.

That's:
a) a "Schnapszahl"- means have a drink on it
b) a boring number. Go for 1234.

Yes, I think the $30 rebate is store-independent, although prospective buyers might want to contact Plextor to verify this).
I saw this $101 price mentioned at a Hot Deals site.

$71 after rebate + tax on $101 is nice, BUT I will personally wait a bit:
1) Because 8X DL burners (NEC ND-3540A e.g.) will come out relatively soon
2)I finally, after 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 months burned some discs on my 3500A, so I am not in a big rush to get a burner for my other desktop I guess. :)

i wonder whether online stores (newegg, etc) will lower their prices soon enough to match BestBuy's.....

As what happens with some other hot products out there, BB's price just jumped up $29 from $101 to $129.99.

Yeah, coincidentally, right after Best Buy mailed out their 10% off coupons for their Exculsive Sales Event. :x

Newegg has refurbished Plextor 716SA/SW. The one that I received has a TLA #0203, January production date. I might have been lucky but it has all cables, face plates and software in the box for $84 shipped.

Thanks for the post. I went to BB and got the price difference on the Plextor. I had gotten it back in late January and went back when they came out with the $30 rebate and that was on February 9. Since Feb only has 28 days, I went on the 11th of this month and was able to get the price difference bet 129 and 101. Thanks again for the post.

Plextor 716A for $47.00 @ BB

Here we go:

Use the BB 10% off logon link:

On-Line Order = $117
10% discount from Logon link (-$10)
Plextor Rebate good to 3/31 (-$30)
BB Rebate 3/27 to 4/02 (-$30)

TOTAL Cost $117 - $70 = $47

Can you please give me the 10% off link if it is any different than the regular link?

OK, Disregard the request above. I found the link and got to the $30 rebate form at Best Buy. Then I went to Buy.com and found the other $30 rebate there. Note that the Plextor is also on weekly sale at $99.99 this week, AMIR.

So how it looks to me:
1. The Best Buy rebate only requires a copy of the UPC and is a Best Buy rebate.
2. The other is a Plextor rebate and is not specific to Buy.com only, but does require the original UPC cut out.

So it should all work!

Thanks,

Slim

ok! I would like to see you all get two $30 rebates. But, somehow I have a bad feeling about this.

$109-30=$79 is the deal I got, if you can get 10% off that then jump plus another $10. Wow

I ordered one for pick up (saw deal early this morning, but was running late for an important meeting) so couldn't do anything till just now); couldn't resist having just sold my NEC 3500A this weekend.

However, the PX-716A has 6X DL; the upcoming 3540 has 8X...

The disease has been termed creeping digititus.

Ok! I corrected my math // $69-10% is still a great deal. Good luck on the extra $30 rebate. You will need it!

PS/can you do the rebate twice? like buy two units?

One is a BB rebate; the other is a manufacturer rebate.
The BB rebate accept photocopies of the UPC, so there should not be any problem.

Doesn't matter, though - sold out.

Over and out.

I got in just in time I guess.

I will hopefully keep my two latest drives (both PX-716A) for a very long time, especially if I stick to single layer burning, where speeds won't get any faster...
I am ready to keep these for a while like my 708As.

(I only got one 716A for the super hot price [today's deal]; I got the other one for more, but still a nice deal).
The average price of the two is better than I could have expected...

PS:
Unfortunately I hit two nasty potholes (it was hard to see because it was pouring all day and the 2nd one was in the dark on top of it) - I hit one during each drive pickup.
(Ironically in each case the potholes were encountered after making a slight wrong turn when getting near the respective stores, otherwise I would have avoided BOTH entirely).
I think the car suspension (and hopefully tire) survived; probably thanks to their 16 inch size and, I think, slightly wider than average profile.

10-4 on the truck, Veff, good luck on the alignment.

I finally decided to order and then they were sold out. Well, OK, I have another plan that just might work. I'll go in tomorrow to see if they have any unopened returns. It worked Black Friday. They were out of the LCD that I wanted by 6:03 when I got to that part of the store. Some strange force pulled me back in early that afternoon when I was driving bye on another errand. I thought that perhaps one of the geeks could "find" one in the back that they were holding back for after the sale. He took me right up to ther return counter and handed me one.

Slim,
Hopefully the alignment is fine; the jolts were loud, but I fortunately I wasn't going fast (I wasn't on highway in either case, and also in slower zones period thankfully).
We have gotten 1.75" of rain (so far) today, but compared to what Californians have had in the past few months, that is probably nothing...

By the way, some stores still have a few on the shelves, but the price is $129.99 and no 10% online coupon.
Still not too bad, for a drive with AutoStrategy and such good performance, at about * $77 after $60 in rebates, including tax.
Although (if I missed the deal) I would personally wait for buy.com or Dell's next sale and cut down on the need for $50 in rebates (you might be able to find one in the $80 range again (after a SINGLE $30 rebate) like Dell and buy.com a few weeks ago

* "about" because tax will vary depending on your location of course...

10-4, Veff, I'll keep my eye out for the next sale event. This isn't like buying a car off the lot where the guy says that you gotta' get in now because it won't be there tomorrow at that price. For high techory, there is always one more sale and my creeping digititus is not so bad that I can't wait.

Exactly!
This drive is sort of an exception due to the Plextor name and success of the 708A; but I have a feeling that once 8X DL burners (NEC 3540A) come out, the price will drop.

That said, I loved my 708A burners so much, that I decided the slower 6X DL (with fw upgrade) of the 716A vs. 8X of the soon-to-be-released NEC ND- 3540A was a worthwhile tradeoff to get Plextor quality including unique features like AutoStrategy for all media (and IntelligentTilt for DL media); besides which I will probably not be burning DL media for a long time to come and 4X DL media hasn't even come out yet to my knowledge?

Well, I am off to watch a TV show I recorded weeks ago...

Well, that was an expensive set of DVD burners if you factor in
the extra $118 (inc tax and balance etc.) for a new front right tire (good thing
I checked it as there was a big bulge on the sidewall where it had been into the pothole).
Come to think of it, I hit a big pothole over the weekend, so that could have been it too.
The townships involved (3 seaparate locations) should be ashamed of themselves; since these obviously didn't get that deep overnight...

Thankfully the alloy rim wasn't bent.

Oh well, I better make sure to really enjoy my two new burners now...

Roger that, Veff,

Condolences on the truck, but that kind of money is squat on a truck nowadays. Could have been a lot worse.

Over and out.
