Microsoft is offering to exchange a copy of 64bit XP pro for a copy of XP Pro. I just signed up but haven't had a response regarding shipping date. Read here for details- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bi ... fault.mspx

Edit- Just found the FAQ - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bi ... e/faq.mspx

I did this the other day using the COA from my laptop. :D

Shipping was $12 so its not totally "free".

LOL, yeah when I signed up I thought why the heck do they want my credit card..then I remembered shipping. Twelve bucks isn't too bad, I read that Newegg is offering the OEM version for $158. $158 is a little steep after being able to get 32bit Pro coas for about $85.

I used the coa off a non 64bit computer. I'm just not anxious to wipe out the OS on the Athlon 64bit computer until we see how this new OS works out.. Hopefully the third party support will improve.

Did you get an e-mail confirmation for the order or did you go to Microsoft's web site and check?

Thanks

It more than likely won't. WinXP64 is not, and will never be a consumer OS. Wait for Longhorn for true 64-bit 3rd party support...

win x64 is truely tons faster then win xp pro

but remember it still needs driver support

as far as i know epson r320, hauppauge mce 500, SLI, (full) audigy 2

still don't have driver support

but ive seen huge performance increases by putting windows on a rapter 36gb

It is not just having a Win64, you have to have the processor that operates and capable of processing 64 bits of infomation, also you have to have your motherboard supporing 64bit and having 64 bit capable data bus.

The last article that I read, Longhorn was due to be released sometime in 2006. That's a long wait... Anyone know of an updated release date?

AMD is starting their tech tour. The Opteron deal looks very nice. If I remember correctly the two opterons cost about $600 and the bundle also includes Microsoft Server and a Tyan mobo- Link

Nope. They "lost" my order. By the time they finally looked up my info and informed me of this, the upgrade promotion was over. Damn Microsoft.

Did you get your original copy back? At any rate, I'm pretty sure it's not legal for them to say they "lost" your order, and now your SOL.

Sorry to hear that happened. You would think public relations are important and that they would send a copy. I guess their just too big to give a crap... Microsoft, how not to make friends!

Thanks for letting me know. I just sent off an e-mail to see what's going on with my copy.

Here's the response today from Microsoft regarding my request for a shipping date-

"We have no order number ********* in our system. What is your full name and address? We do not see an attempt in our system to place an order under your e-mail address.
Microsoft Technology Advancement Program"

Here is an unsolicited e-mail dated 7/13/05-

"Dear Microsoft Customer:
Thank you for your recent order for the Technology Advancement Software Kit.
We sincerely apologize for the delay and will begin shipping the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Software Kits beginning July 14, 2005.
Multilingual User Interface (MUI) add-on packs for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition are now available for download for Technology Advancement Software customers. If you were using a language other than English for your previous Windows XP Professional (32-bit) installation, you may download the appropriate ISO image from the list below and install your language of choice."

Howdy Ian :D :D :D
LOL, on their web site ( order status lookup ) the order is pending until they ship!
If anyone else has the same problem please post the date of your order, mine was 6/11/05...

Bill
PS. I'll see if I can get a fax number for sending the order confirmation page.

It took a few e-mails but Microsoft e-mailed a form yesterday to be filled out and faxed back to them by August 31st.. I received confirmation today that the new order has been accepted.

If anyone with a lost order is still interested in getting a copy of X64 use this e-mail address- Ms64bitupgrade@productorder.com... Provide the following to speed up the process-
Your name
Mailing address
E-mail address that was used when placing the order.
The original order number if available.

The order status page is found here- https://microsoft.productorder.com/clie ... tatus.aspx

I suspect Microsoft lost a few orders and is trying to correct the problem if given enough information.
