I went by my local Staples today (normally Your Home For Made In Taiwan Media-- they almost never have Japanese media for some reason, and I don't think it's picked over) and was surprised to see a good portion of the Sony DVD-Rs were made in Japan. I picked up 2 spindles, as I've read good stuff about it, and it's SONY08D1 media. It'll be interesting to try. The packaging, to my quick inspection, looked IDENTICAL between the MIT and MIJ except for the tiny print saying country of origin. I see now the MIJ media I bought has a lifetime warranty, I'm curious if the MIT does as well.

I didn't check out the DVD+Rs as I have a TON of Verbatim DVD+R media from the various sales of late. (plus I am trying out my LG 4167 which does seem to like DVD-R media slightly better than +R)

Thanks for the tip, Justin. I went to Staples yesterday but couldn't find any made in Japan -R Sony. They did have some +R Sony ( Japan ) so I picked up one cake box. The MID is - Yuden 000 T02 ( authentic ), nice looking media.

Now here is the interesting thing that I didn't know until after visiting videohelp. The Sony -R, MID- SONY08D1 is made in both Japan and Taiwan.. Makes me wonder who is manufacturing that MID for Sony. The reviews are good for both countries of origin...

Anyone have any info on who actually makes the Sony08D1?

FYI,

I went to Office Depot yesterday to buy some Verbatim that's advertised as "all Verbatim on sale up to 65% off"... The only Verbatim that was on sale at that particular store was the rewritable media.

After asking the manager what was up he said it was a "rolling sale"! I asked him why it wasn't "rolling" today, as advertised? He just shrugged his shoulders. All I could do is laugh at him and went to Staples.

So anyway, the sale may vary by store.

The MIT discs are manufacturered by Daxon and people are still debating on who is making the MIJ discs. Some rumors have Sony themselves or Taiyou Yuden.

Thanks guys! :D

Is Daxon also selling media under their own name? I would like to know more about the company... who they manufacture and package for, quality etc..?

Daxon is owned by BenQ, so they make all of BenQ's media (there was once when BenQ had to outsource to another manufacturer, when Daxon couldn't meet the demand, but generall it's all Daxon). Daxon also is one of the main manufacturers of Sony media. I'm not sure if that includes CD-Rs though, which may still be made by Lead Data. Daxon also seems to be supplying some CD-Rs to Maxell, but I haven't seen them in North America yet.
