i was hoping someone could post any hot deals/recommendations for taiyo yuden cd-r media. I dont have an office max nearby, but i can pretty much get to all the other stores, ccity, bbuy, office depot, sams, walmart, etc.

im assuming that i can look for the fuji 50pks w/the MIJ code, but i am not sure what other brands use TY media in their packs.

for example, i stocked up on the sony 8x ty +R (octagonal spacer) and verbatim mcc004 +R 16x at bbuy w/their 50/$14.99 sales, which, while not the lowest price was still a pretty good deal, but i am not aware of which cd-rs have been on sale lately and also what a good price point for them would be.

just bought 200 hub printable TY cdr for $65.97 shipped

but now even with there super10poff coupon its $0.70 more

so, have you purchased any ty media in stores? the price you listed is about .33 per disc, that is too rich for my blood, also I dont need printable, just basic media.

we carry em at our best buy store

i bought 200 because im doing a wedding cd for a couple getting married in a week, printing there wedding picture and listing the wedding songs on the cd that i will also burn

which of the fuji TY packs are the ones that go on sale? 50/100 pks? are they on sale very often from what you see?

we don't carry 100 pack japanese fuji's in our store

and these past couple of months we don't have cd-rs on sale

its always blank dvds on sale

CD-Rs are getting harder and harder to manufacture at the prices these big box stores demand for their sales. Only Ritek, CMC, and MBIL can really do it anymore, unless you want to go for cheap chinese discs. Taiyo Yuden has also just dropped their Value CD-R even.

thanks for the info, might you recommend a Ritek/CMC disc that would be a pretty good performer?

also, are you basically saying that I will only be able to find good TY media online now? riteline, supermediastore, etc? If so, which non-printable discs should i be looking for?

Well, in the US, you may still find some spindles of Fuji CD-Rs that are made by Taiyo Yuden. You can determine if they are made by TY by looking at the country of origin on the packaging, if it says "Made in Japan" then it's made by TY.

As for CMC or Ritek.... both *CAN* be good, and both can also be horrible. Most of my Ritek CD-Rs last me at least 5 years, although some have also been known to die in 2 years (almost as bad as Ritek's 8x DVD-Rs!). CMC can vary just as much.

So for best results, I suggest going with Rima and getting regular thermal silver (or shiny silver) Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs. At least for anything important.

why may i ask thermal silver or shiny silver coating ?
is the shiny silver also a printable coating or just plain coating ?

That depends on who you ask

I would say that thermal printable *IS* Shiny Silver, and is NOT a special coating on the top layer of the disc. Some people would tell you otherwise.

Now in the case of Everest Thermal printers, they NEED a special coating on the disc, or the disc surface tends to be destroyed to some degree... but those discs are usually marked as Everest Certified, and most people know not to buy non-certified discs if they have Everest thermal printers.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood the question.

The silver thermal / shiny silver disc is just the cheapest version. White thermal is more expensive, and the white and/or silver inkjet printables are also more expensive, and not so great for labeling (without a printer that prints directly on them).

Taiyo Yuden Premium line discs should all be roughly the same quality. Only the Value Line products are lower grade.

Value line is ONLY Shiny Silver / Thermal Silver, from TY. So yeah, all the white thermal and inkjet printable versions should only be Premium Line... unless someone takes silver thermal Value Line and has another company put a different surface on the disc.

Well, the value tends to come as a shrinkwrapped bundle, and unless they take it off, there is a sticker that says "Value CD-R" on it. The Premium usually come in 100pc cake boxes (unless it's inkjet printable to the hub) and they don't have stickers on them.

Burnmaster HAS used them in the past, they only use B Grade media from what I can tell.

so, I had to make an order at Newegg anyways and I just went ahead and purchased the 100pk cake box of white thermal TY discs:
