Yep, its that time of year. Time to get up early and brave the crowds just so that we can get some deals.

Most of the ads are now online:

I haven't gone through them all. Are there any must get deals this year?

Best Buy has the Pioneer DVR-710A for $29.99. At that price, I might have to pick up another.

Does anyone own one of those Westinghouse LCD's? A 22" widescreen for $200 is tempting.

I just bought the 710A this week at the $49.99 price, with some coupons. Does anyone know if BB will pricematch this, since it's not a "doorbuster" price? Or am I going to have to return/rebuy, and/or rebuy then return the new one with the old receipt? (I've already installed and flashed the 710A).

I must say, it really IS an awesome drive from the scans I've done so far!

I like the EB Games ad that has a picture of a teenage boy pumping his fists and in the caption it says, "Finally, an excuse to put my homework down!" Don't get me wrong, I love video games, but this ad is going to upset many parents. :P

A few deals:

Best Buy
Seagate Internal 250GB PATA Hard Drive - $59.99
Western Digital External 250GB Hard Drive - $69.99
20 Pack Memorex DVD+R Lightscribe Discs - $8.99
100 Pack Dynex DVD-R Discs - $4.99

No mail-in rebates, certain quantity limits per customer apply.

Circuit City

50 Pack Nexxtech DVD+R or DVD-R Discs - Free after $20 MIR
I/O Magic External 16X DVD-/+R DL Burner - $29.99 after $70 MIRs (yuck!)

Magnavox 75 CD-R Discs, 50 DVD+R or 50 DVD-R Discs - $7.99 no rebates

Hey Ian,

Don't own one, but I went to Westinghouse's site. The two dealbreakers for me are, no listing of HDCP support (on a widescreen it ought to be mandatory at this point and I keep my displays for a few years, so anything I buy has to have it) and it doesn't seem to have 1:1 pixel mapping, so if your graphics card can't do games at 1680x1050, you're stuck with a blocky resolution.

It's really too bad. The unit has a ton of inputs, and looks nice. But the user manual was pretty weak. I'm probably going to wait until I can afford a Dell 2007WFP.

Hox, just curious....is that all you'd say about their LCD TVs, too?

That 32" Westinghouse LCD widescreen looks nice...the 51" rear-projection Hitachi doesn't look bad either.

I agree Hox, on getting what you pay for. Personally, I wasn't willing to wait in the massive line that started at most Best Buy's around midnight in order to have a hope of getting one. My dad was just looking for an inexpensive TV. I ended up sending him to Staples, where he got a MAG 32" for about 20 bucks more, since I was pretty sure the lines wouldn't be nearly as long.

I only went out to get one thing this morning. Went to Home Depot to get a multipurpose ladder they had on sale. Got what I needed, got out, went home.

The wife and I stopped at Best Buy this morning at about 7. The lines weren't as bad then and they had they still had a bunch of the LG upconverting DVD players. We then head on over to Target where we picked up a photo printer for my parents and a Millenium Falcon for me. On our way home, we then hit a Kmart in the sticks to pick up the last few things we needed. Was pretty productive overall.

Just back from BB and picked up a couple of things. Got the last DVR-710 by chance. Found it by the movie section. I had bought one a while back for 49.99 and thought it be good to get another. I also bought a 2GB SANDISK Cruzer flash drive for 29.99 and a couple of movies.

Looking at the Gateway laptop for 699 and it comes with the AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile technology TL-50 with a 120GB HD, 2GB PC4200 DDR2 memory, ATI 1150 graphics card 128MB. Any thoughts on how good or if its worth the price?

Yup, same here at all three BB's in my area.

I'd have to see a great deal on something I wanted really badly (i.e., Geforce 8800GTS/GTX) to wait in line that long.

I went to Home Depot at 9am and almost everything they had on door buster was still in stock, might not be any dvd burners or like that but they did have a few plasma sets on sale too :o
I ended up with the $27 Rigid 12 gallon 5 hp shop vac, a $20 6 foot step ladder, couple of $14 drill bit/driver sets, 2 of the $9 tool bag caddies, $6 cordless drill holster, $5 23 peice screw driver set.
They were out of the $5 LED flashlight sets, and I should have gotten the $5 stanley wide 25 foot tape.
Everybody was smiling, even the employees and they kept asking me what I needed and going around finding it for me while I waited =D>
I have enough burners for now, might try a LG 18x sometime if one goes on blowout...
