Hey Guys,

I thought I'd just let everyone know about this drive that popped up on DirectCanada.com:
http://www.directcanada.com/products/?s ... e=VERBATIM

It's a Verbatim 4x DVD±R External DVD Burner, based on the NEC-1300. At $17.81 CAD, it's cheaper then most external drive casings alone, and might be a good option for people with older laptops, or who don't care much about burn speed (although you'll want to buy either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim 8x DVD media for best compatability I suspect).

Hey, this is too good to be true, an external brand name (Verbatim) burner for $17.81 WOW. I am intimidated to order one but I do not know if they ship to US.

They'll ship to the U.S. :) If DirectCanada gives you any problems, then go through NCIX.com and have them price match it from DirectCanada.com. It's pretty rare to have a price match request denied.

You Canadians, you always get the good deals :P .

Thanks for the heads up, I have a old laptop with a bad writer and couldn't justify buying a new slot loader. I'll call Monday for US purchase instructions.

Well I picked mine up today! I was pleasently surprised to see it came with both USB2.0 and FireWire cables :D The case is pretty easy to take apart too, so I expect that a faster drive could be swapped in easily :D :D

If anyone that purchased one of these cheap Verbatim external DVD burners wants to get rid of one, I'd be interested in taking one off your hands.

I might be willing to part with my second (unopened) drive for my cost ($20 CAD) + shipping.

You'd have the following options for shipping:
Canada Post Expedited Parcel USA (est 9 business days) $16.93 CAD
Canada Post Xpresspost USA (6 business days guaranteed) $25.26 CAD

PM me if you're still interested
