The local Walmart wanted $148 for it. I'm guessing this is due to the stupid Wisconsin law that says stores can't sell stuff for less than cost. They did have a lot more $20 Blu-ray two packs than what I had listed.

Funai may never release a firmware update for it, they make it. They do have one FW update listed for one BD player on their site but I don't remember which one it is and it's the first and only update they have ever listed.
The player probably will work fine anyways, people should just be aware of what they are getting. The extended warranties through wally world are dirt cheap as well and to some extent they do actually honor them.
http://www.funai-corp.com/support/updates.aspx that funai's update page for anyone that's interested.

It may also be Wal-Mart not wanting to match what is on the website. I ran into this a few months back on a 26" Vizio LCD. It was listed for whatever price on the website, but in store it was $20 more. I wanted to purchase form the store since I could take it home that day, and the site said shipping would take 7-10 days. When I asked if they would match the site price, the guy said "We can't do that, it's the website price and this is a store price, they are different". I could have pushed the issue and asked to speak to the manager, but since I hate Wal-Mart as it is, I bought it from Target's website and payed a whopping $3 more than I would have at Wal-Mart, and as an added bonus, it got delivered in 3 days, instead of 7-10 days.

Okay, its gotta be that stupid Wisconsin law. If you look at the add for the Chicago area its only $128.

Maybe you folks should start a petition to change the law. Here in Oregon if some one starts one and gets enough VALID signature they have to put it on the next ballot for a vote.
It drives the local politicians crazy and many times they figure out dirty ways to invalidate a law we just passed but it's still in place and works.
If you don't have that I'm sure there are other ways to do something about it if enough people are tired of over paying for things there.

It would be easier for us to make a "donation" to our governor. You would not believe the stupid insurance law that the lawyers want him to pass.

Here's a good explanation:

http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/mi ... 100818.htm

The Democratic governor's proposal known as "joint and several liability" would increase the number of victims who could receive full damages in civil lawsuits filed over injuries.

Under Doyle's proposal, the defendant would only have to be found to be equally or more at fault than the person bringing the lawsuit. Opponents say that means a business owner could be as little as 1 percent at fault and have to pay 100 percent of the damages. Trial attorneys who support the change said that rarely happens.

Members of the coalition, which included ski resorts and tourism groups, the state Farmers Union and Farm Bureau, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, the Tavern League and the state Hospital Association, said the change will lead to more lawsuits, raise insurance rates and drive some out of business.

If this passes, insurance rates are expected to go through the roof.

They're all ready through the roof for health insurance, might as well even things out. My work insurance has a 750 deductible then 20/80 up to 10 k then they pay everything after that, thats for one year then it starts over.
I've recently had some kidney stones bigger then I can pass diagnosed and other issues so I'm rapidly finding out how much of that is coming out of my pocket and the boss just continues to pay ever higher premiums every year.
looks like I'll live but with much less money for a while...
