I checked out the Best Buy Thanks Giving Ad, and the one item that jumped out was the Norcent 48X Burner for $9.99

Despite what the ad says, I know our store has around 100+ drives

Don't be a tease, hoxlund. Put a link to the ad in the hot buys forum! :D

Any ideas on who made the Norcent 48x drive or what chipset it's based on?

That's right hox...you know the upcoming stuff for After TG ;)

He's not gonna have the physical ad likely...just the insight about it. But hey...can you scan the deals...manually write them down? Something? ;)

Any drop in price for Creative NJ3 in prep for the Nomad Zen? :)

My store has a million of those 48x's too...

i just got back from best buy with my new buslink 48x (the $25 deal).

I saw the norcent or whatever it's called, and it didn't seem to be on sale or anything.. tag said like 80 bucks.

I asked an employee if it was on sale, and as usual, all of them being idiots, just replied "it costs what it says on the tag."

the 48x buslink wasn't priced correctly on the shelf either, oh well, maybe it is 10bucks. But i have the best buy ad and i dont see it in there.

I've seen evidence from online resellers that this drive is a BenQ. Only one way to find out for sure. :)

OK, the ad says its a 481S. According to Norcent's website, its a Lite-On.

it says a minimum of 15, but our store has about 100+ in, most of them are in the warehouse being held for thx giving ad, so if you want to gaurantee yourself one, go to a store tonight, and hide one in a very good spot, like in a furniture desk drawer, or behind a ATI video card, you know something no one buys

I do the hiding thing a bit...you know...a good but low-stock DVD behind something likes the million copies of "Hart's War" ;)

International site definitely looks like a LiteOn. However, according the the US Norcent site, it looks like a Benq. Maybe the box will able to be popped open and look at the giveaway faceplate.

Either way...it's worth it for Nero alone!

you mean pay for nero? haha, silly you, hasn't anyone ever heard of serials 2k, or www.astalavista.box.sk?

Of COURSE not...what are you talking about?;)

hehe...

Hox....here is the one I'm eyeing now...off the big BestBuy list:

FREE with Purchase: 48x24x48 internal CD-RW drive with purchase of Epson C82 inkjet printer

I NEED a printer...and love to have a 48x24x52 if this is right. It would have to be a LiteOn clone maybe...

I just got back from my local Best Buy. The Norcent drives in my area are Benq, not LiteOn. :( The box says "Seamless Link", and the drive has the telltale "ventilation slots" along the bottom edge.

Here is a picture of a Benq from Ian's review:

The Norcent isn't exactly the same (e.g. it doesn't say "Benq"), but you get the idea.

Sorry to be bearing bad news, at least in one part of the country.

Confirmed in FL...

I was just about to say the same thing...Florida is using Benq. I just got back from my local one too. That's one cheap-looking box....and cheap-looking drive too--took it out of the box.

Let's hope the Epson printer combo has a good one included...said it was 48x24x48 but I think it's going to be a Buslink 48x12x48--because they were piled high with that model.

We shall see...

so does the $10 deal have any mail in rebates attached or is it straight out 10bucks?

Regular price is $59.99
Mail-In Rebate of $20 & $30.
So the total cost after those two mail-in rebates is $9.99

The BenQ version is the RW400

http://www.keymoo.com/norcent/english/p ... /rw400.htm

Here's a pic of it. Doesn't have the little slots on the front:

Ian, the drive in the pic is 40x12x48x. isn't the Norcent supposed to be a 48x burner?

OOps.. yeah me bad. I saw the Seamless Link support and never looked at the speeds. It's been a long day.

The only 48x BenQ drive Norcent has on their website is a 48/16/48. Of course, their website could be out of date.
