They can also be CMC's - CMC's use an all clear/silver label (simular to Imation or Khypermedia) while the Prodisc's use dark blue ink instead.

Precision Media is another brand of Memorex like Dysan. So you can never be really sure of what you're getting.

Update: I went to Best Buy today,- the ones they had were CMC - silver label. :(

Very Good Deal. I just got back from my Best Buy and they were sold out of them already. So everyone who wants this drive, act FAST before they are sold out online or at your local Best Buy Store.

I just got back and now have a drive in hand after some initial trouble (see my post on the CD-RW forum). My local store was down to 2 drives in stock when I went. Nevertheless, I am very happy with such a great deal.

To make this deal even better, I was able to use a 10% off coupon that Best Buy put in several magazines over the past 2 months. This coupon is good for 10% off any peripheral purchase (including sale items) and also includes blank media. My apologies if this has been discussed already, but I have found the coupon in various Sports Illustrated issues as well as the recent year-end double issue of Rolling Stone. I'm sure they are in other magazines as well. Each coupon I've had has an expiration date of 1/31/2003.

I've also used these coupons on a printer, a scanner and now this drive. I was even able to get Circuit City to allow me to use the coupon there on a scanner that Best Buy doesn't even stock. To make it even better, they gave me the coupon back in case I wanted to buy something else at Best Buy. They take the 10% off before the rebates of course so my ending price on the Buslink 52X drive will only be about $37 before sales tax.

I just bought some of the Precision CD-R's and used the cd-r identifier on them and they came back

Disc Manufacturer: Prodisc Technology Inc.
Recording Layer: Dye(Short Strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)

Is this the same as CMC's?

They are not the same as CMC. Prodisc is a completely different CD manufacturer than CMC. I have read that Prodisc is pretty good and better than CMC. Personally, I've never used Prodisc before so I can't say much about them.

These are the ones I bought, and some of the Nero CD speed reports I have seen here and on other websites tell me they are better than CMC, IMO.

Any 75 CD-R package for 99cents after rebate is a awesome deal, getting Prodiscs just make it sweeter. :D

They have worked great with my Lite-On 48x burning at 40x with Nero. Smartburn usually starts at 24x and works it way up to 40x by the end with the burn. I havent tried burning them at 48x

This week, I picked up a few boxes of the Prodisc-manufactured Precision blank CD-Rs, and I bought the BUSlink 52X burner. I'm planning on installing this burner in an external USB 2.0 case.

Thanks to taxman150 for pointing out the additional 10-percent off coupons in Sports Illustrated. :) Now I need to go through a few more back issues of Sports Illustrated before I throw 'em away. :)

Anyway, I've burned the Prodisc-made Precisions at 48X on my TDK VeloCD 4800B. Interestingly, there is only a one-second difference in total burning time between 40X and 48X. The reason is that SMART-BURN kicks in on the 48X burn (at around 75 - 80%) and reduces the speed to 24X.

I used CD Doctor (kudos to cfitz for the English translation) to test the C1/C2 errors: Neither disc had C2 errors, and the one burned at 48X had a few more C1 errors than the one burned at 40X.
