OfficeMax had a deal like this a while back. But be careful, there may be a hitch in actually getting the price down to $129. Last time while the store sale was on they seemed to make the product unavailable for online purchase. As a result the extra online coupon couldn't be used. It looks like this may be the case again (I get that the product is unavailable when you try to actually add it to your cart online, same as last time).

unavailible for online purchase?

My local fucking Office Max didn't have any during thanksgiving. It was False Advertising.

Was it based on DVR-A05 or DVR-A04?

Last time they had this on sale, people got A05's.

Yeah, it seemed so. Ridiculously cheap! Less than half the Japanese price of Buffalo's rebadged Sony DRU-500A (US$270). :D

Just bought one today and its an A05. Been using the sony 500a for the past 3 weeks, but returned the Sony for the Cendyne. The Sony works pretty good, but $169 for the Cendyne (Pioneer A05), I'll take that price over my $350 Sony anyday.

Almost forgot, how did u guys get the price down to $129. I tried to ask for the internet price coupon but they wouldn't give it to me. I must not be asking it as nice as you guys are doing or I got a tough cookie of a sales person.

According to paps33 your experience may not be unique, at least not these days:

In my experience the stores won't honor the internet/online coupons (have hear of a particular store manager or two doing it occassionally). And that's the rub here. They make the drive unavailable for purchase online, thus taking away the extra $40 off. $169 is still very good, but $129 would be reeaall nice.

Yup, at $169 its still less than half of what I paid for the Sony 500a. Maybe I can use the money left over to get a Dvd+ drive so I can get both formats(hehe). Anyway a little off topic, I hear a lot of people having a problems with cheap media on the A05, but the cheapo media that I bought from alloutmedia.com works fine. The 83 cent media (princo) burns at 1x and the $1.12 non branded media (tdk something according to dvd decryptor) burns at 2x, which is what they were rated for so I'm happy for now.

That's an amazing deal. Don't suppose anyone wants to buy one on my behalf, and post it to Australia?

The reason why it is so cheap is because there are newer 4x ones out from Cen Dyne.
