i see that someone took notice of my suggestion.

i think it's really cool this way, the best all-round solution: low bandwidth for dial-up users, and big detailed pics for those who want them... :D
thanks!

i hope this will catch on...

What's the probability that those 40x Maxell's will burn @ 52x?

Any guesses?

Thanks,
Slim

My guess, and it is only a guess, is no, they will not stretch all the way to 52x. But they have been reported to burn okay at 48x on a number of burners in the media compatibility thread, so they might go to 52x. How's that for a long-winded "I don't know"?

My Circuit City has 3 of them left. If they're still there on Friday, I'm going to pick one up for a friend.

I picked up one of the buslink 52x from my local Circuit City yesterday, it was a lite-on.
The firmware itself says its a lite-on, doesn't even need to flash it :P
Good deal.

Good deal.

Does it come with the full version of Nero or just Nero express?

I nabbed the drive also. Be wary though, they had both Justlink and Smartburn drives. The girl grabbed the Justlink one first, and I swapped it for a Smartburn.

Buddha...how can I tell if I have a full version of Nero or not? This version seems to have more things then the Nero that came with my computer.

Anyhow...this is my first Liteon drive. I'm way pleased with it. My old 16x media that i've been trying to burn off will burn at 48x on this drive. While only 16x on my Artec 40/12/48.

I'm guessing its the full version then. But is this Nero specific to the BUSlink drive or just an OEM copy that can be used with all CD-RW drives?

the manual said it was only for this drive. I upgraded it to the current version on NERO's site though.

I'm at work but I vaguely remember seeing it was Nero express....

If it's like the Nero that came with my Buslink 48x (Lite-On 48246S) it's the full Nero, but says it will only work on the drive it came with, and the version number (even after updating on the website) returns "5.5.10.15a bundled".

Haven't tried to make it work with any other kind of burner..

I bought the Buslink drive(Lite-On) on Monday and installed Nero 5.5.9.13 bundled(no need to upgrade to 5.5.10.15a unless you have a DVD writer).

I bought this today at CC for something like $85 after taxes. I got the $50 in rebates and they'll be going out tomorrow.

The drive I got was a Lite-On already and the bios recognizes it as so as well. The drive looks the same as the one in the Lite-On review on this site, except without the liteon.ct.cw(sp?) link sticker on the front.

My new burner replaced a Plextor 16/10/40, and so far I'm very pleased.

Only gripe: Included 1 (one) 48x "e-Performance" disc. 0 (zero) CD-RW discs. The crappiest manual on the planet and a 8.5x11 sheet of paper (folded in half) as the Nero manual.

Included Nero version 5.5.9.13a but I am not intalling this as I have the latest retail version installed already. The package came with 4 screws and one ribbon with no slave connector. Just one connector on each end.

It loaded up as UDMA-2 without me having to mess with any settings.

Hope it helps anyone looking for this deal. It's the best I've seen for a 52x Lite-On based burner and it's the one I've been waiting for.

Firmware came as 6S0C.

My grand net total for this drive is $32.45. :):):)

I got the Buslink CD-RW drive for $29.99 after rebate this afternoon at CC. They had about 11 on the shelf, all SmartBurn models which came in Thursday. They're expecting another shipment Saturday morning, so anyone who's still interested might want to try on Saturday at your local CC.
