question about WD SSDs

Postby stix on Wed May 02, 2018 7:25 pm

anybody have an opinion on these SSDs, on sale at Newegg for a few more hours? Haven't seen any recent reviews of Western Digital's SSD offerings around here.

also, how would these compare to the similar Crucial 3D NAND versions?

They're decent drives. They use SanDisk's BiCS 3D TLC NAND so its going to perform better than older TLC NAND based drives. My only concern would be the somewhat low endurance numbers but they make up for it with a 5 year warranty.

I've got WD's new Black NVMe SSD. It's smoking fast. ;)

thanks for your thoughts Ian.

curious which model WD Black NVMe SSD you are referring to, since I finally got a board that supports one and I've been reading about these.

also wondering if Crucial MX500 500GB M.2 Type 2280 Internal SSD (still on sale today at Crucial) would be a better choice than the WD Blue M.2 SSD (on sale today today for 48hrs @ Newegg) ?

Sorry.. been busy this week and haven't had time to check back on this thread. This is the WD Black I'm referring to. Keep in mind, there are two versions. The newer one is a lot better than the old one.

If I had to pick between the MX500 and the WD Blue, I'd go with the MX500. The WD Blue is decent but its a bit more entry level than the MX500.
