What TV shows have handled the death of a Charactor?

Postby dolphinius_rex on Fri Nov 18, 2005 2:50 pm

I was talking with one of my co-workers, and we were discussing TV shows that have suffered a death of one of the actors, and actually had their charactor die in the show as well. So far we came up with the following shows:

Sesame Street
News Radio
Smallville

I know there's not too many, but can anyone think of any others?

what actor died in Smallville ?

you missed a big one:
The Sopranos.
i don't remember the actress's name, the character was Tony Soprano's mother.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor, where the Shadows lie

Cheers.

Nicholas Colisanto (sp?), who played Coach, died after Season 3. They replaced him with Woody Harrelson.

On The Sopranos, Tony's mother was played by Nancy Marchand, who was also on the show, Lou Grant.

Also recently, we had the death of John Ritter, and they had to handle that on 10 Simple Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter.

Don't forget about the actor who played Jock Ewing (father) on Dallas. They killed him off in a plane crash in the show. Of course the show is just a little older than me, but it was replayed like crazy on TNN a few years ago.

The first one I remember (which made alot of news at the time) was back in the 80's with a show called Cover Up. The actor was Jon-Erik Hexum.

I remember my sister had a crush on him and didn't take it too well.

Didn't they kill off Christopher Reeve's charactor? I don't watch it, but I was sure I'd heard that.

i was just asking for clarification, not doubting you.
i saw (most of) the 1st season, they they stopped bringing it here.
a short while ago i've seen all of 4th season on DVD.
lately they've been showing more, i don't even know if it's 2nd or 3rd season. i only get to watch it sporadically.
so i don't know much about the character played by Reeve.

Law & Order: Trial by Jury when Jerry Orbach died.

He appeared in only the first two episodes of the series, which aired in March of 2005, after his death. The fifth episode of the series, "Baby Boom", was dedicated to his memory.

yeah, but he wasn't on that show when he died, did he? (didn't watch that particular flavour of Law and Order).
