I guess you are referring to the Sony and the Pioneer. Well I have them both and I prefer the Sony. The reason is that more software supports it (at least in my limited experience) and it gives you more flexability. The 4X that they both feature is there basically for rich folks right now because the blank media costs about $8.00 each. I assume it will come down in cost in about a year. I like being able to burn -R and +R on the same drive.

Based on historical DVD-R prices, 4X blank media will come down much sooner than one year from now.

I remember buying 1X DVDPro DVD-R media earlier this year for $2.30,
a disc, now it is half that...
2X media costs as little as a buck now from one place (although more realistic prices are $1.35 - $1.70 a disc) for the cheaper brands.
