My personal opinion is that Lite-On would probably be the best in China. I think Lite-On drives are made in China, anyway.

Plextor makes very good drives, too, and their drives have many extra features. However, Plextor drives cost far more than Lite-On drives, and I don't know if they are available in China.

They are headquartered in Taiwan, but have manufacturing facilities in China:

Oh, you're right. I thought Lite-On drives were made in China, but I just looked at my LTR-48125W, and it was made in Taiwan.

I'm sure other CD-RW manufacturers make drives in China too. LG and BTC (at least the Top-G label of BTC...yuck!) come to mind.

I know as a fact that Liteon drives are made both in China and Taiwan, but Liteon is a Taiwanese company, and they have got manufacturing plants in both China and Taiwan, also BenQ drives are made in China, Taiwan and Malaysia as well.

Really it's not the country that its made in that counts but mainly what counts is the quality control.

Also lets not underestimate the Chinese and their manufacturing, because technology in China is catching up very quickly with the rest of the world.

When it comes to assembly lines and touch labor, 90% of the electronics hardware associated with PCs is made by two concerns: Flextronics and Solectron.
