That program should NOT be on kazaa. As said in another thread, it can be dangerous.

I disagree, it should be on Kazaa.
Evolution - only the strong survive.
Let people play and let them get burned.

In case you don't know: THERE IS A USER GUIDE at http://www.cdfreaks.com THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ, BEFORE THEY USE WSES. Its in the liteon forum.

Ian, I hope you don't mind the link.

Why write one when someone else already has?

WSES is pretty safe actually...

WSES is pretty safe actually.

Common sense has to start here somewhere:

1) Read the user guide. (I saved it as an MS Word .doc on my system with the pictures, I suggest everyone do the same).

2) Read it again.

3) Stay far away from the Clear EEPROM command.

4) If you don't know what the feature does, DON'T MESS WITH IT. The disc scan stuff is straight forward, so is the taking a screen shot. Let someone else be a guinea pig.

Finding WSES is not that hard. Just ask around. If you have Kazaa, you'll find it there too.

Why bother? The one at CD Freaks is great. Not to mention.. who has time to write a guide?

WSES For Dummys:
A) Run Program
B) DONT use Clear EEPROM command
C) Run C1/C2 Error test
D) After ignoring (B), toss CD-RW drive into garbage

There...now that wasn't so hard :)

Of course, there is a lengthy recovery process if you do kill your drive.

It's covered in the the thread with the guide. But you need another identical drive to the dead one.

But why jump through all of those hoops. Just order the drive, replace it with the dead one, and RMA (or return it) as a dead drive right out of the box. Get your $ back. Just buy it from a store with no restocking fee. Don't even think about doing a mail in rebate with the new drive before you return the dead one. That's

Oh, yes: then kick yourself in the ass for not listening to everyone that told you not to do it.

Morals Spaz, Morals. That would be the  thing to do.
