Akitio has expanded their line of Thunderbolt storage solutions to include the new Thunder2QUAD, a 4bay Thunderbolt 2 product that is large enough and fast enough for professional 4K video editing and can be used in various other occupations where larger storage capacity and high-speed data transfer speeds are required.

The QUAD holds up to four drives and can handle 3.5”, 2.5” or solid state drives. Capacity can reach up to 20 Terabytes when using 3.5” drives and reaches transfer speeds of up to 1.4 Gigabytes per second when four SSDs are installed.

This extremely fast, large capacity storage device will be sold both as an empty enclosure and with pre-installed drives (either hard drives or SSDs). As with all Akitio Thunderbolt products, the QUAD will come with a Thunderbolt cable.

The Thunder2QUAD joins an already impressive line-up of Thunderbolt products from Akitio which now includes one bay, two bay and four bay storage products such as the Palm RAID that recently won Best of Show at Macworld 2014, as well as PCI expansion and Thunderbolt docking solutions.

"Thunderbolt 2 creates an entirely new way of thinking about 4K workflows, specifically the ability to support 4K video transfer and data delivery concurrently," said Jason Ziller, Marketing Director for Thunderbolt at Intel®. "Devices such as the Akitio Thunder2QUAD allow users to experience the awesome speed, performance, and flexibility of Thunderbolt 2 by managing 4K workloads in ways previously unimaginable."
